By moving billions of items through this chain every year it gains an enhanced ability to fine-tune its complex operation in a way that a new competitor cannot match. Amazon will soon be able to collect a million potato peelers from a factory in China, ship or fly them to the USA on its fleets of ships and jets, split them into hundreds of shipments to its thousands of warehouses around the country, and ensure anybody in the USA can order a potato peeler for *factory direct pricing* and get it the next day. But according to you that has nothing to do with logistics.

No, they are on the forefront of how to transfer, store, compress, search, and organize data that is gathered.

That's where you're wrong. Amazon is interested in the logistics of getting the package to your door, not the service of doing it. They use literally every shipping company if it is likely (according to data) to get that package to you faster.
