@Dinscurge 4 hours ago not really directly related, but hopefully im wrong and ai isnt an ongoing disaster in general for the human race, but atleast in my not that boomer of a lifetime i have seen even fully developed(more or less) adult people fall into simple traps of using some new tool as a crutch and they become significantly less ingenious, like get into 3d printing or cnc and then that proverb if you're a hammer every problem looks like a nail hits, and they forget you can do other types of fabrication like welding bending forming. i mean schooling in general seems to be becoming a disaster if you were to say theres no geopolitical/socio-economic happenings and everything else was the same, how could kids possibly have degrading literacy or basic arithmetic when they have increased access to research materials/help different techniques, easier access to figure out things like if they were dyslexic or if they are nearsighted and the teacher has them sitting too far back and they cant see good to read. that maybe there was something to that you might not always have a calculator thing, where people just google the problem they are having and its got that purple ive clicked the link before highlight because their memory recall is such a state they just look up the thing they need when they need it and theres no point to remember it at all. least i recall there was countries going towards banning tablets and stuff in gradeschools going back to pencil and paper. or for more goal or results based learners, like say for me i didnt start to practice programming for the sake of doing it, i had things i wanted to do in a way that other people werent doing, if you have to learn a skill to finish a project, that project could get you to learn something you otherwise wouldnt have, if you have a tool that can just do it well enough for you, why learn that skill? how many people started doing things because they had to not for the sake of doing it? i mean how does one know they want to do something for the sake of doing it if they have never done it in the first place? that i think alot of people are gonna get just rekt by being able to hit the gimmie the thing i wanted instantly button, instead of having to deal with the more harsh reality of having to suck at something and do it with great repetition until they get proficient enough to do the things they want to do, not just that one skill, but the maturity the learning experience in general about yourself and the world, how dedication perseverance work, what people mean when they say someone is a hard worker or has good work ethic, time/project management, how things work, how long it takes to do things, how long it takes to learn things, you can start to get ideas about things and yourself

@boyscout399 15 hours ago I think you overestimate the desire to keep 20+ year old hardware running. If including that device driver opens a security hole in the operating system that no one cares to fix, i'd rather have everyone be secure than support a certain 30 year old mouse. 2 3
