CS females

I was reading some old articles and found this:
The numbers are striking: Girls make up only 17 percent of those who take high school computer science advanced placement tests. Women receive less than 28 percent of computer science bachelor's degrees, down from a high of 37 percent in 1984.
http://archive.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2000/05/36372

iirc in 2012 the percentage was 10%. I know you give a shit about this topic but I only wonder how after 30 years of feminism so many girls are now choosing shitty careers (like business) instead of superior science careers (like computer science). What is causing this strange behavior?

I'm male, but the impression I got in my youth was that STEM was hard, and that anyone who can socialize shouldn't do it. People place more of an emphasis on socializing girls, so they are less likely to be left with no other option. I have no way to prove that's not bullshit, though.

Likewise, people here often disparage autism (despite being obviously autistic), but it's worth mentioning that high-functioning autistics are overwhelmingly male:

The sex ratio averages 4.3:1 and is greatly modified by cognitive impairment: it may be close to 2:1 with intellectual disability and more than 5.5:1 without. (wikipedia)

and I think it's fair to say that a non-negligible percentage of computer scientists are high-functioning autistics. In fact, I would phrase it more strongly: programming is a field ideally suited to people with autism. If the field's best people are almost all men because they are genetically predisposed to be better programmers, then no amount of nagging about positive role models will do much good.

Again, that's an awful lot of extrapolation, but you asked a somewhat soft question so I don't mind giving a soft answer.

I don't know how old are you, but modern CS students are mostly kids looking for good money, seriously, there was just one autist kid in my class and he wasn't a good programmer (but he studied a lot so maybe in the future he will)...
I understand how the current society influence females to study non-autistic fields, and I agree with you in that point, but I still don't see what happened in the last 30 years to go from 37% to 10% (or even less, at least in my country).
Also if you see pictures from the 40's to the 60's almost every system operator was a women, how many female sysops you know today? same in maths and cryptoanalysis

I'm pretty old (graduated high school around 15 years ago), so yeah, I definitely don't know what the cool bands are anymore, etc.

I'm kind of sad to hear that new programmers are just looking for income. Normies will definitely squeeze out the weirdos who have nowhere else to go, and programming as a whole will suffer.

You're right that it sort of doesn't make sense that so few women would study programming. The feminist view is that it's sexism, but I have honestly never personally seen sexism directed toward a female programmer in over a decade working as a programmer. It's not like salesmen are less likely to be sexist, and yet sales is closer to 50/50.

The much older stuff - 40's to 60's was just a matter of programming and similar professions being viewed as secretarial work and therefore the domain of women. In fact, I read somewhere that a business analyst in the 1970s could make 70k in 70s money, which is way into six figures in today's money, and it was viewed to be a women-only profession.

business career pays more money and vagina can be used for career advancement. In Computer Science, girls can't use their vaginas to get anything done. Of course there is Linda Liukas, but she doesn't have a CS degree.

back then is was immoral to sell vaginas, so girls had to do some real work.

You're going to have to add a footnote to your posts if you expect other people to understand your obscure acronyms, grandpa.
