Is there any defense against that? I.e. you can't take drone with AK-47 and a rocket would be too expensive for a 200 bucks Chinese toy. Is now the time for fighter drones, taking one another?
It is too high, too small, and moving. Some camouflaging is also possible: try picking a blue drone below blue sky. I'm sure modern material can be used to make it bulletproof with little additional weight.

Drone can use height map and to determine it's location and other drones around it to transfer data. And it is not like you want tight control over the drones. You just lift a swarm of them into the air to completely cover the battlefield.
