to play back a simple midi file I had to install like 400 megabytes of dependencies, what kind of sick fucking joke is this? i can install windows 95 which is just a couple megs and double click a midi file and it runs just fine

Back in 90ies playing midi on Linux wasn't supported at all.

So Linux definitely has some progress.
