Retard already is the politically correct word.
Don't like 'normal' people making fun of 'challenged' people? Tough shit, but it's not the words fault.

``Retard" isn't politically correct. It's not used in medical circles either. The main term used nowadays is developmentally disabled.

Name: Anonymous 2016-10-05 5:24

And ``normal" isn't really a useful term, since it's too vague unless context is provided.

isn't politically correct
Oh dear! Better call the PC police! How could anyone ever use terms that are not Politically Correct!

I was correcting >>2-tard's claim that ``retard" is a politically correct term, without intend into imply that political correctness is either good or bad.

Context is provided by the comparison. And "normal" is shorthand for "conforms to statistically normative traits".

Context is provided by the comparison
Yes, in that comparison it's clear what ``normal" refers to. The issue is when you just out of nowhere say ``Bob is normal", then it's unclear what you mean.

Of course political correctness is bad. It's doublespeak for oppression of freedom of speech.

These are sources cited in the article you quoted, pointing out that the ``r-word" is deprecated.

Yeah, maybe you're right. But in 20-40 years, descriptions like 'intellectual disability' or 'developmentally disabled' will be deprecated, too, and something new will be used. Again, the problem (be it the ridiculing of retards or the retardism by itself) isn't solvable by changing the word describing it.
I'm just taking a shortcut and saying you can just as well keep using 'retarded'.
I would even go as far as saying that 'disabled' is worse than 'retarded' because it implies a general and permanent inability, while 'retarded' simply means that these people are just 'slower'.

add.
And just to make this clear: I do understand that the word 'retard' is interpreted as an insult. I simply think that by changing it to a PC word, will make the PC word become the insult in the near future (and the old insult will be forgotten).

Hmm, that's a good idea. I'm going to strive to use PC terms as slurs more often.
