BRAIN FUCK: What is a hyperlink

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-27 4:42

A hyperlink is an entire web page worth of knowledge comprised into a single small piece of text. It's amazing how much space posting hyperlinks saves, and how much we have come to rely on them for tidy and accessible discussion. Even the most seemingly banal subject discussed online among the most cattle-like of plebs, is elevated to thoroughly-researched scholarship when one considers the magnitude of citations and information comprised within the links shared in any given online discussion. My mind was blown after realizing this. Links are our version of Egyptian hieroglyphs and are the secret to our phenomenal intelligence.

Are hyperlinks always blue?

They can be whatever color you want them to be.

DFW anticipated the invention of hyperlinks with his autistic, page-long end-notes. And we all know how much of a Wittgenstein fanboy he was before he offed himself.

I have not seen an external blue hyperlink since 2009

But aren't the hyperlinks on this board blue?

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-27 23:36

hashes are better

Yes, retard, which is why I specified external to this site. Wow.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-28 9:09

External as an adjective isn't very descriptive in that context.

They're yellow for me here

Depends what CSS theme you set it to.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-28 17:46

Why are you blaming someone else for your blatantly poor writing skills?

I personally just disable CSS entirely. I actually think it looks better that way, kind of like that Toothpaste theme. I'm too lazy to write a userscript, plus, you can't browse userstyles.org without enabling a bunch of shitty, proprietary frameworks. The site literally breaks, and the extension has baked-in telemetry.

tinychan has horrible css styles, other than pseud0ch. I like the style with the same color scheme as the 4Chan adult boards, but tinychan cucked on it.

nah the black background haxx0r websights give you autism

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 2:23

I actually like it because of the background color. It's way easier on the eyes.

You'd think of all places, here would be the one that someone wouldn't be so insecure that the would respond to sincere feedback with "wow, you're such a pretentious wannabe hacker"--especially for something as underwhelming as just toggling css on uMatrix. I just find it easier to read. I don't use w3m on my desktop; things like quick reply wouldn't work there.

nigga is you dumb? Why the fuck would you use that?
Next you'll tell me you also use backlinks.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 3:24

I don't use backlinks, I just enable threading. And I'm using quick reply to write this post right now, so I'm not sure what you're on about.

I think it's because intentionally disabling CSS doesn't do much good except break websites, while disabling things like JS are good.

I just find it easier to read.
A pure white page with black text? That will strain your eyes.
At least style it yourself with userstyles.

It's amazing how the irony of that sentence goes over your head.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 4:00

>>25
Yes, disabling CSS has a much higher chance of breaking websites than JS.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 4:34

Well, clearly, we should appeal to a rule of thumb here despite the fact that's it's blatantly not applicable to the subject at hand. Sure. Totally. Congratulations on winning the Internet argument.

You aren't even pretending like you read the thread.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 5:53

>>28
There's no need to read more than the title of a thread in most cases. Extrapolating from the title will allow you to respond at will to any post in the thread.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 6:36

Why should I read the thread when I can just read the OP? It's not like I'll gain anything from reading existing discussion before voicing my own opinion.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 6:37

>>28
What a load of bullshit. What do I gain from reading the opinions of others before I express myself? If multiple people voice the same opinion without heed for previous debate, that just means that opinion is really, really important!

Why should I? He should feel bad for pretending to be a 1337 hacker by announcing that he disables css. He's not contributing to the discussion by giving an example of the value of hyperlinks, he's just being an elitist teenager.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 6:44

>>35
I didn't read the thread anyway (nor should I. Why should I read the thread when I can just read the OP?), so what you say isn't relevant.

Name: Anonymous 2017-11-29 6:50

Well, anyways, before we got sidetracked by "external blue hyperlinks" which is apparently supposed to mean blue hyperlinks outside of this site by some godawful logic, I was going to mention this article: http://contemporary-home-computing.org/RUE/, which is basically a rant about web 2.0. It seems irrelevant, but, as mentioned in >>13, hyperlinks are basically the meat and potatoes of this website. The fact that browsers like w3m have been viable for so long as an actual utility shows the strength of such a minimal tool as html and some basic js even without the supplement of frilly css themes or whatever. Something to think about.

Don't change these.
