learning how to type

backspace with pinky
, with middle finger
Ctrl preferably with the edge of your palm
Shift and Alt with knuckle of pinky
y with right index finger
x with middle finger
ad hoc combinations using {Shift,Alt,Ctrl} should be on the opposite side of the other key--in general, maximizing the distance between finger press positions.

I decided to practice with this: https://typing-speed-test.aoeu.eu/ I got 64 WPM (words per minute) which is pretty good.

Are you using an old IBM Model M?

I hate to break it to you, but that's about a standard deviation below average.

There's a "scoreboard" of sorts of the speeds were way below that, ~20-50. I did a few more, best so far is 74. It's pretty addictive.

That's an average among people literally too incompetent to type proprerly.

The ones doing around 20? Sure, they're probably typing with one finger, like my boomer dad, I like to get on him for that sometimes, haha.

He's implying that you're the incompetent retard, you retard.

Rude!

Anyway, for the non-rude, non-louts of /lounge/, the link in >>4 is a fun excercise.

You should hit the right alt key with your thumb. By using your pinky, you're removing your hand from the home row and also straining yourself.

Indeed that's better advice, but I'm using a shitty compact tenkeyless mechanical keyboard where a FN key takes the normal position of the right Alt key.

Do they make a non-shitty model? Thought about getting a Unicomp keyboard, but I heard that they make them shitty now.

Alt+Tab can be done better with your right thumb on Alt + left pinky on Tab.

Don't change these.
