Take Starcraft, it has hotkeys: player pushes hotkey, then click mouse on the target. And all the retarded game designers copycat this Starcraft's design error, requiring player to also click the mouse button, instead of simply moving mouse over the target and clicking hotkey. Further optimization could be binding specific units specific action on a hotkey, i.e. heal.

>>2 I assume your parents didn't allow you any video games, right. Its like a film where you control characters or direct them to do something. Interactive movie-like experience with more of an abstract nature(strategy, like real-time chess) or more realism(roleplaying, where you control the hero to advance the plot)
Ok. So the next RTS would allow binding whole group's action to a hotkey (like 1 2 3 4), instead of binding group selection. That way player can move mouse over enemy and press `1`, so that only group 1 would be attacking it. That would boost APM efficiency order of magnitude. There is just no point of binding group selection to a hotkey. Player always wants to perform some action with that group. Selecting the group itself could be mapped to shift-`1` instead.
Isn't he an chess player and not an video gamer player? Not in the same league!

>>9 Chess is a just a primitive turn-based grid-centric strategy game. So simple in fact simulated battle doesn't require a computer, just a rulebook describing the algorithm to move the piece.
