I've been to Kiyv recently (unfortunately didn't meet the bydlo - I'd happily punch him in the face for killing hamsters if I did) and it's your're are average east-yuro big city. I've also been to Lviv a few years ago. there's a war in the east, near the border, but everywhere else is relatively safe. also, I think there's some kind of armistice or at least a stalemate because the front didn't move for two years.
