The tax-funded education and healthcare, workers' rights (unions, adequate pay, safe workplace), human rights (right to marry and adopt, have own culture, have own religion or no religion at all), standardized education concerned with facts and not propaganda, high environmental and food quality standards - all of those have been called "socialism", especially by opponents of socialism.

As long as you get competent people to implement it, you won't get a subhuman mess like russia or china, but a highly successful, first world country like Sweden.
