WebRTC is a free, open project that enables web browsers with Real-Time Communications (RTC) capabilities via simple JavaScript APIs.

It's basically p2p in the browser without flash.

I don't understand what you mean by making a racecar out of a wheelbarrow and why that's relevant to using web technology as a UI platform. Are you implying that web technologies are less effective as a UI platform and if so, why is it less effective?

You need to know that a platform is simply a collection of technologies used together for some given purpose. Examples of these would be the .Net platform which aims to make it convenient to connect desktop applications to the Internet; the Java platform which aims to let people write software once and have it run anywhere Java is supported; the Android platform which is designed for portable phone computers and tablet computers.
