Obviously there is Plan 9 and Inferno, but they are Unix and Unix is not the goal. Neither are they good enough for practical use. But then there's FreeBSD.

OpenBSD is actually a pretty nice desktop for Unix fans. You get a nice Unix with no bullshit, but it can run modern Firefox and has pretty good support for modern laptops.
