AI WINTER IS OFFICIALLY OVER

Name: Anonymous 2014-05-06 23:38

Move the fuck over Mentifex, AI hobbyist are raising money to attempt the most ambitious project ever create, the simulation of an entire worm.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/openworm/openworm-a-digital-organism-in-your-browser?ref=category
This project is simulating an entire 302 neurons and for only $249 you -- yes YOU -- can have your name assigned to one!

Don't think this is some fly-by-night bullshit scam aiming to make $120,000 and get out quick either, there are a full nine people on this project ready to make it a success. No niggers on it though.

And as a statement to the sheer complexity of this feat,
building a WormSim from source is a complex operation that requires advanced engineering skills
That's right, advanced engineering skills just to run `./configure && make && make install' That must be one fucking monster of a project. Luck for you retards
The WormSims created and brought to you by this campaign will run on a rather advanced cloud infrastructure and will be easily available in your browser without requiring any programming skills.
How magnanimous.

But is it really intelligent? YES!
The C. elegans worm can avoid predators, seek food, and learn in the wild and in the lab! So yes, it’s no Lieutenant Commander Data yet, but we must crawl before we can walk... and it’s orders of magnitude more intelligent than your robot vacuum cleaner ;)
Beam me the fuck up, Scotty, cuz' this worm is about to assfuck the entire Earth. Singularity, here we cum!

One year and one hundred twenty thousand dollars later and you can now rotate a 3D model of a worm in your browser! Welcome to the future, faggots.

Is that really it? I didn't even waste money on this and I'm annoyed. They could have at least animated it and made a perceptron or something.

Of all the words and organisms they could've chosen, they decided on the one that's associated with malware? FAIL.

the grassroots movement to encourage young women to get excited about codingbeing mindless codemonkeys lost in layers of enterprise abstraction bullshite and enamoured by their shiny locked-down consumerist consumption devices
FTFY

My daughter can read enough Asm to do some cracking and basic RE. That's what should really be happening, teaching users how to get full control over the computers they use, giving them true power and freedom, but instead all this "learn to code" shit gets focused on ultra-high-level crap fad languages and everyone still doesn't know how a CPU really works, so they remain easy to brainwash and persuade. It's just an illusion of control to keep them happy and ignorant.

Although I watched the video and I'll give her some credit for not prominently showing off "coding" on an iDevice like I thought she would...

Already got rid of your Intel Management Engine, freedom fighter? Or do you not know how your computer works and who really controls it?

Cudder's daughter is a hacker! It's only a matter of time before she picks up return oriented programming and is buffer overflowing her mom's programs!

You seem to have a different notion of freedom. You see, for most people, freedom is the ability to get shit done that they want done. High-level languages give the most freedom because they allow for rapid development. It's rapid precisely because it doesn't submerse the programmer in low-level details like calling conventions, registers and memory management. Being able to quickly throw together an app in a framework and deploy it on some bloated web stack is more freedom than being able to flip every bit in your memory because flipping bits is not the type of shit that most people want to get done.

Hmm. I guess Cudder was a natural woman after all.

>>41
She's not really interested in the exploits stuff. Neither am I, maybe that's why.

>>42
That's not freedom. Freedom requires thinking, not just blindly following what someone else did.

Being able to quickly throw together an app in a framework and deploy it on some bloated web stack
Good luck figuring out what went wrong if you don't know anything about how it works! I've seen too many "developers" whose problem-solving skills are limited to randomly changing code (they copy-pasted from somewhere else) without knowing what it really does, or begging someone else to spoonfeed them the answer - which they'll promptly forget. That's not freedom.

Freedom doesn't involve thinking at all. You either have it or you don't, no thinking necessary.
