Is it PERL or Perl?

*Haskell also works on "the Web" and mobile devices.

Not really.

How and why did java become so popular?

Name: Anonymous 2014-07-09 20:37

We measured the number of hits for each language by using Google’s API to search for the template “X programming.”
Then Haskell should be the most popular, because Haskell is so unintuitive, people have to search premade solution even for simplest task.

Top programming languages (according to the people who care to read IEEE Spectrum):

1) LabVIEW
2) C
3) Verilog
4) Assembler (the one the chip vendor gave you!)
5) Perl for everything that can't be kludged in some horrible way using one of the above

Anyone who advocates for another language is not a REAL ENGINEERTM and their opinion is not worthy of notice.

You forgot MATLAB. Also, VHDL is better than Verilog (actually, I prefer AHDL but that's proprietary).

You forgot MATLAB.

Noted. I think I had it at one point but it got dropped because it would have undermined the "Perl for everything" joke.

Also, VHDL is better than Verilog

IEEE memberships are rather expensive these days. Big semi tends to use Verilog more.
