People have been speculating about self-sustaining fusion power for many decades and yet, it still hasn't happened yet. I have no idea about it (I don't keep up on the news of fusion) but I'd guess that there's no inherent reason why fusion power can't happen in the future. All we know is that the current engineering ideas that were tried had failed. Maybe the same thing would happen for the memcomputer - there must first be a theoretical idea and then engineering problems have to be solved to bring the theory into practise. They will hype the idea all they want it's their own responsibility to bring it to reality.
