Programming is Low Stress Job

that must be a joke, because I as remember programming it is the most stressful job, full of deadlines, failures and firings. You never know what will go wrong and how many days would it take to implement feature X. There is always this bug, that makes million USD losses and you are the guilty.

It's easy to not care about your job and still do the work. Stress is harmful to both health and performance. But the culture surrounding the profession is to care and to stress constantly about everything. And those that are not stressed are perceived as irresponsible. An unexpectedly large part of the job is maintaining a certain image in the face of a group of people, who all seem to belong to a narrow and homogeneous culture.
