Largest terror raids in Australian history
NEWS.com.au ‎- 1 hour ago
HORRIFIC details have emerged of a plot to behead an Australian and upload it to social media in a deliberate attack against the country.

AFP believes the raids in Queensland are not directly related to NSW raids. “We are looking at links between the two,” said AFP Acting Commissioner Andrew Colvin

The Daily Telegraph reports at least 600 officers from the Australian Federal Police, ASIO officers and the NSW counter terrorism unit launched the strikes before dawn this morning.

Australian Federal Police Acting Commissioner Andrew Colvin confirmed 25 search warrants were executed this morning, 15 people were detained in Sydney.

Minister: Anti-terrorism raids show "very real threat"
The Sunshine Coast Daily-3 hours ago

It is a little scary...
I'm still not sure who to be more afraid of though =/

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 0:20

600 burly officers at dawn or a tea-towel head? ^^

surely the tea-towel isn't that scary...

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 0:29

Bloody Isis, you're setting just as bad of an example as everyone else...

I expected better from you =.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 0:35

At least Luke-kun has the decency to sage his posts.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 0:55

I think the police are a bit guilty of excessive use of force, disturbing the peace, and probably biasing the trial...

Couldn't you have just arrested him quietly on the roadside?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 1:08

Guilty of conspiring to plan to prepare for an attack?
attacked
prepared
planned ?
conspired

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:28

Bit of a long bow isn't it..?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:38

Aren't you also guilty of conspiring to plan to prepare for an attack on iraq?

Trial by air-strike or decapitation....

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:45

All fucking cry while russia is fighting like a bunch of pacifists, then charge off to war yourself...
That's not how it works..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:51

War kills civilians. If only soldiers died then who'd care?

Can't you go fight out in the ocean or something? ^^

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:55

>>10

Would fight in a war, Luke?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 2:57

I can respect the old WW Vets, but i think you should well know better by now... Don't think having another WW is going to earn you any

I've thought about joining the army when i's younger
I'm a bit of a softy really though, so kind of glad i didn't

If it came to the point i didn't have a choice, then i wouldn't have a choice. I don't think i'd be expecting to live, like a proper anzac ^^

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 3:19

It should never really need to get to that point though...
People chose to let it get to that

Take your troubles to the grave, don't bring that shit home

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 3:45

Soldiers are probably gone hate this =)

You went for the burden, what you want me to carry you now?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 4:30

It's funny, the only time you really need an army is when you don't have one...
Get one, and then you need something for them to do, else you're left with a bunch of high-wage bludgers... Nobody even attacks because there is an army, so we have `defensive` over-seas campaigns that are hardly defensive at all..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 4:33

You all fucking disappoint so much and you still want Respect..?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-18 7:42

I dunno how early must've i been born...
a thousand years maybe? ^^

When exactly were you all going to grow up? This aint no peter pan

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-19 5:20

You know what really gets me...

Both the australian and american governments are probably quite smug that this happened...

Justifies more war, more surveillance, more interfering with everything everywhere... Who cares if iraq becomes the next north korea?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-19 6:00

We just sent another 50 tonnes of small arms (assault rifles?) and ammo to the kurdish terrorist-ish group...

Zarif called the 24 participating nations at the Paris conference "a coalition of repenters" because most supported the Islamic State group "in one form or another" from its inception following the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.

At the end of the day, he said, they created "a Frankenstein that came to haunt its creators."

Zarif said Iran's assistance — without any troops — helped Iraq prevent the Islamic State group from taking over Baghdad and the Kurdish capital Irbil.

Thus a murderer, for instance, may still be a Muslim, but someone who denies that murder is a sin is a kafir if he is aware that murder is considered a sin in Islam.

But that place is Crazy!

Surely I can't get arrested for finger-painting on the internet....?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 7:39

Especially when the feds just asked to be blanket excused for illegal activity?

What country is this again?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 7:43

Come on aussie, you're not supposed to be becoming the Islamic State...

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 7:49

High Ideals i support, but they don't excuse bad practice.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 8:51

If you don't wonder if you've gone too far now, who knows how far you'll go?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 11:40

Fancy trying to take advantage of a nation the moment it becomes vulnerable...
You intend to break the law just like the ones you caught..

For shame

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 12:00

A new offence would also make it illegal for anyone to advocate a terrorist act, even if the act never occurs.

All's fair in love and ...law? You're advocating war, hardly any different..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 12:20

Can you really deny a place in the world for an islamic state..?
There is a jewish state practically next-door...
I'm not saying they've done a good job, but if a bunch of people somewhere in the world want to follow some set of rules, i don't think you really get an option to say no, unless you want to go live there..?
Yes they're forcing it a bit, as is everyone else..?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-20 23:37

Time for some basic Law Theory...
A law is a rule that Should Not be Broken under Any Circumstance.
When a law prevents more good than bad, it should be abolished.
Loop-holes just make the law more complicated and far less effective.
If you can't say it should not be broken under any circumstance, it shouldn't be a law.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 0:10

A good case in point might be computer hacking..?

You've probably broken this law multiple times per australian
citizen, and if it is preventing good, then it's time it went..

Are you so naive to believe the only good people in australia are
the ones employed by the government?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 0:41

Every little law just takes away another little bit of freedom..
I don't think you should even be lumping piles of laws together
and passing it, each law should pass on it's own merit or not at all.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 0:47

How many poorly thought through laws have already snuck past legislators?
If you can't even be bothered with due process for each new law you think we all need to obey, you shouldn't even be making them.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 1:14

Next recommendation

For sanity purposes, a law should not be passed without a two-third's majority, so at least you can say we are twice as sure this is a good idea as it is a bad one...

+50% majority should be reserved for at most abolishing laws..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 1:19

I find it a bit troubling that we might already have such a plethora of rather questionable, even dubious laws...

I'd be going retrospective and throwing out all these laws that have not passed unquestionably..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 2:12

...A kangaroo court is often held by a group or a community to give the appearance of a fair and just trial, even though the verdict has in reality already been decided before the trial has begun. Such courts typically take place in rural areas where legitimate law enforcement may be limited. The term may also apply to a court held by a legitimate judicial authority who intentionally disregards the court's legal or ethical obligations.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 4:21

I think it's high time parliament stopped dragging it's feet and started implementing Australian -gold- Standard procedures ^^

When was the last time you actually did an Audit of our laws..?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 4:49

Consider it a step towards a manageable, sustainable legal system...

How can you expect people to follow laws they don't even know exist?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 5:54

Additionally, it is now specifically illegal to [urge] a person to assist the enemy:

(a) the person urges another person to engage in conduct; and
(c) the organisation or country is:

(i) at war with the Commonwealth, whether or not the existence of a state of war has been declared; and ...

or to [urge] a person to assist those engaged in armed hostilities:

(a) the person urges another person to engage in conduct; and
(b) the first-mentioned person intends the conduct to assist, by any means whatever, an organisation or country;

Political security is concerned with whether people live in a society that honors their basic human rights. According to a survey conducted by Amnesty International, political repression, systematic torture, ill treatment or disappearance was still practised in 110 countries. Human rights violations are most frequent during periods of political unrest. Along with repressing individuals and groups, governments may try to exercise control over ideas and information.

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-21 8:37

So anyway, ISIS is utterly defenceless to air-strikes...
But aren't you going to issue some sort of reasonable demand with an adequate timeline?
Or are you content to just kill these people having not given any means to comply?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 6:31

Ah, how sad...
Now we are expected to give up more `Personal Freedom` in exchange for more `State Security`

You never see the State giving up freedom for Personal security though...

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 6:40

You wanted to see everything, and then you saw without ever even asking... Didn't even let us know..

If you're going to get all offended, then perhaps you should know when to look away... else i'm just going to have to start encrypting everything..

That doesn't really suit me, some things you would do well to hear.. It's a bit like me attacking hollywood because I Must Watch Every Last Movie for some unknown reason..

And what of all the Violence in movies? It passes for entertainment these days you know..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 6:42

If Air-strikes are not violent, what if i call on God forbid, Canberra ...?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 6:56

National Security is above and beyond politics?

There is no personal freedom that should not be sacrificed for state security..?

What about being able to walk down the street, and sleep safe at night?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 7:01

If anything, last thursday has shown that the current laws are more than adequate..
Perhaps it is the states turn to give up some freedom, by means of becoming more transparent, such that personal security is increased...

There's not really anything else left to surveil

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 7:04

We're reaching the point where more National Security actually makes the Nation less secure...

Time to take one for the team yourself, govnor..

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 7:13

How about some Government MetaData?

It's pretty harmless right?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 7:17

Maybe a few webcams scattered around the party rooms..?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 8:23

He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither?

Name: Anonymous 2014-09-22 8:34

When you argue for a particular policy, you can put forward ideas about morality or strategy, present facts and figures, precedents or philosophical arguments. But you may not simply assert that a particular policy is or isn't in the national interest. Before you do that, you must tell me what the national interest is.

I guess i must concede those guys sound pretty awful

We will conquer your Rome, break your crosses, and enslave your women, by the permission of Allah, the Exalted," it says. "If we do not reach that time, then our children and grandchildren will reach it, and they will sell your sons as slaves at the slave market."

Do unto others....?
