Girls write more complex programs and learn more about coding than boys when it comes to making computer games, a study has found.
A group of 12 - 13-year old pupils spent eight weeks developing their own 3D role playing games as part of the University of Sussex study.
Dr Kate Howland and Dr Judith Good developed Flip, a programming language which uses a simple interface to help the pupils string together scripts, basic programs which trigger a change within the game, such as a message popping up once a treasure chest is opened.
The girls used seven triggers within the games, almost twice as many as the boys of the group, and were much more successful at creating complex scripts with two or more parts and conditional clauses.
>>7 What's heterosexuality have to do with women's ability to program? I've got a healthy attraction for youkai girls and that doesn't make women more than dumb ``epic geek coders''.
>>7 I'll have you know that I'm not a virgin. Not that anyone gives a shit though. I've slept with a couple girls, trying to force myself to be straight, even though deep down I know I'm gay. I'm a gay guy who sticks his dick in girls. It doesn't really work out well though. I wonder if they could tell. I still love dicks, but I hate myself because of that.
>>6 More complex doesn't imply worse. What makes a program worse is if the code is unusually complex for what it does. But complex functionality is always going to entail some degree of complexity in the code. It's when code is overly complex for the functionality it provides that it becomes a problem.

Reminder thqt 5hese studies are all entirely fabrocated as well as media presense of fake coder girls like carlie kross simply to encourqge strong independent women to.be coders
Last time a read a news article that claimed women are better than men it turned out to be bogus. Has anyone read study this article refers to? However is possible reason girls might be better at making games is: girls play games more then boy.

The new study [..] suggests that girls can be motivated to explore programming and create rich gameplay experiences by building on their skills in literacy and storytelling, the report found.
Because having a LiveJournal and creating socially/economically meaningful software are obviously the same thing.
Whoever did the layout in the paper should be hanged. It makes it completely unreadable.

I wonder what the result would be if they used NWScript instead of Flip. Scripting a senario in Flip is hardly representative of making computer games; it is comparing a sysadmin, that throws togather a simple script to help him, with a kernel hacker.
There was nothing wrong with the reporting, but the paper itself doesn't pass the sniff test. And from experience with almost 1000 students (compared to 55) (of course, adults with education), I can say that there really is no significant difference between men and women. However I don't have enough data for difference between races and sexual oritentations, but I assume well get some studies on that when that becomes less of a sensitive topic.
Why cannot we focus on how to educate better developers instead of doing these silly researches?
Also, int conclusion it says, “as none of the pupils had any prior programming experience”, perhaps I missed something, but I thought it was only experience from school. If you cannot see the difference, there is probably something wrong with out critical thinking abilities.
