"Something" and "anything" mean similar things when asking a question, but they're still not quite the same. Asking those particular questions with "something" implies that there's one particular favor to do, or one particular item of value that the guy owned. In other words, you're suggesting that you know specific details about the answer you expect to get. "Anything" is certainly more neutral in both cases, but that's not the same as being more correct.
