I believe the xmonad devs have said that their WM code is too tightly coupled to the X binding to be ported to a different display protocol.

I'm a little concerned about the current lack of diversity in Wayland compositors - it seems like anyone and their dog can write an X window manager but for Wayland the barrier to entry seems to be significantly higher. It'd be nice if the Wayland people could converge on a common interface for implementing higher level WM features instead of just hacking Weston.

Wayland is pretty small and people have to write their own compositor library, which is great. Much more control for developers and less fixed stuff like X.

loliwm uses wlc: https://github.com/Cloudef/wlc

Anyone can use wlc to write their own compositor. Or just create your own. This model presents much more flexibility and less bloat on the windowing system. X11 does too many things for its own good. UNIX philosophy.

My point being that there needs to more push to develop a stable high level interface for things like wlc or libweston. There are many competing ideas in the window management area, and requiring that anyone who wants to write a WM first learn their way around compositor guts makes that task more difficult than it (probably) needs to be.

I'm not seeing what this has to do with lolies, except the Suika(?) on the ablum that is playing in the screenshot. I'm pretty sure that lolies have better tastes than this stupid l33t dark-gray-on-black ``haxXx0r'' faggot bullshit.

X11 is really bloated and includes lots of backwards compatibility cruft.
Wayland, on the other hand, is extremely small. It's actually just a protocol and the developers implement what they deem important. No bloat. Here's the compositor library loliwm uses: https://github.com/Cloudef/wlc Written by the same author of loliwm. As you can see, that's really minimal and not bloated like X11.

loliwm is the future.

Post constructive criticism, please.
It looks good to me, even has asserts (especially on wlc, the library loliwm uses)

Backwards compatibility is nice except if you are a niggerface.
Wayland was made from the same people that fucked up X11.
