If you've got a problem with code highlighting taking too long then why don't you get the output of the javascript and save and serve that instead of having the clients process it?

Larry Wall is. Maybe that guy who wrote all those Perl books then went to prison is. Probably a few more, but they can only do one-liners and write the interpreter. That's probably the entire list.
