I think your interpretation is pretty close to the original intention of the writer and director. Although, you seem unaware of the Hermetic/Gnostic symbolism throughout the film. Either way, you're leagues beyond the Christian morons who think the movie is about having faith in a kike on a stick, and comment about it on Jewtube, etc.
