Girl <=> The Eternal Lisp Programmer Soldier <=> The Eternal C Programmer Tanks <=> UNIX Machines Fishermen <=> Non-Lisp / Web programmers chasing after shadows Tree <=> C/C++/Java programming model Egg <=> Lisp programming model Bird <=> Unfulfilled potential of Lisp Ghost town / Derelict Ark <=> AI winter Fossilized skeletons <=> Dead languages, forgotten programming technologies, abandoned projects and broken dreams Rising waters <=> The coming collapse of Western civilization and future Dark Ages, symbolizing the loss of expert programming knowledge False Machine God <=> The Eternal Jew / Google Zio-Matrix / Kurzweil's Singularity
After the soldier breaks her egg, and she falls into the water, her turning into an adult woman symbolizes the standardization of Common Lisp, and the air bubbles from her final breath escaping to the surface turning into miniature eggs symbolizes the fragmentation of the Lisp community. Then her essence is finally assimilated into the Jewish machine God, and the C programmer is left behind in the twilight of human civilization to die.
Angel Egg is Christianity as viewed by japan. Its convoluted expression of themes of dark/gothic Christianity with technological progress serving as contrast between beliefs(religion vs science) and their coexistence(technological taking over spiritual, leading to soulless cities and mechanic religion,as hard and dogmatic as a statue)
bottles which are "egg-shaped but not eggs"=simulacrum of religion substance(egg as faith/bird inside),searching for simulacrums doesn't satisfy(empty bottle collection) and distracts from the real egg(a quantum of religion). feeding the simulacrum(filling with water) and consuming/believing in simulacrum(the water) is representation of faith:egg is the real object and bottles are idols, water is innocent belief in the simulacrum: soldier rejects it Soldier with cross=world-weary and doubting missionary Christian agent whose desire for dogmatic/logical investigation destroys the egg(angel) which girl (with her emotional/intuitive approach) cares about, he ends up on the beach with feathers of angels, abandoned by the city(civilization) and religion(spaceship),since he breaks the egg/angel/his dogmatic faith by looking inside the eggshell(the esoteric truth inside:) Angels are physical=angel skeleton machines/tanks=ugly and oppressive western technology which is intertwined with Christianity The spaceship filled with statues=dogmatic, emotionless religion which is automatic and routine Abandoned Gothic city=Westernization and decay of culture,Gothic "death culture"==Christianity, the tanks/machines are not out of place, or invaders:theological part of "Deus ex machina" like the spaceship. Ark planet=Noah Ark that can contain the animals and their supplies Alien ship=the biotechnological interpretation of gods/angels as aliens Soldiers hunting shadow fish=inquisition hunting "demons" ruining city "civilization", their turn into statues is abandoning the fight against "fish/demons"(which brings harm more than shadow fish and is essentially futile "fighting a shadow" spectacle) The dinosaur "museum"= evidence against Christianity Girl turned to woman in water=reference to Jesus walking on water:her failure/drowning/maturation is the dramatic "ascension in martyrdom" with eggs representing infective agents of religion, her final pace on the ship is an reward of being dogmatically recognized her dramatic "sacrifice" Also, Lisp's expressive power is greatly overrated and exaggerated, nothing worth of religious worship there(javascript has order of magnitude more expressive power).

>>23 I think your interpretation is pretty close to the original intention of the writer and director. Although, you seem unaware of the Hermetic/Gnostic symbolism throughout the film. Either way, you're leagues beyond the Christian morons who think the movie is about having faith in a kike on a stick, and comment about it on Jewtube, etc.
>>24 Hes wrong about the bottles. They're a symbol of knowledge/science/alchemy. The girl consumes knowledge as water. Rising waters are the Renaissance. The fishermen stop chasing shadows because they're drowning in new knowledge about them.
