What shell? Is it Lisp shell? Perl shell? C shell?

I once saw a project, a popular project, by all accounts, that extended Bash by executing Ruby code every prompt. Now that's a shell.

Personally, I dislike shells. Too many bells and whistles. Especially when the bells and whistles are enabled by default and you get tinnitus every time you press backspace, like when you use GNU Screen without changing every default.

GNU Screen isn't that good either. I don't care for screen multiplexing. Most of my work is done over SSH, so I just fg in and out of things. Not remotely though. It's secure because the SSH server only listens on localhost. Just be sure to use nohup. Now that's an anachronism. When's the last time you've ever actually made a call to a remote server? I gave up dialup, like, two years ago, when I couldn't get the WinModem configured on my new machine. I really disliked that modem manufacturers did that. They saved a few pennies by off-loading processing to the CPU, but they never released drivers for anything by Windows. But I did like Window's dialup connection more. I loved listening to the modem sounds as it dialed. So cool.

Don't change these.
