What is man?

Name: Anonymous 2015-04-23 15:02

Man is a tortured being
Somewhere between God and beast.
Nothing tortues a man more
Than his mind when he sleeps.
These wretched dreams,
Won't they deliver some peace?

Another lousy night. Going to be another lousy day at work, I can't already tell.

nightmares are fun. It's a pleasure to have such an intense experience in such a short amount of time. And regardless of how bizarre and terrible it was during it, you wake up, relax in your bed, and breath while your adrenaline comes back down. It's like almost dying in real life with none of the dangerous or otherwise unpleasant lasting consequences.

Lately though I've been trying to wake up in my dreams. I'll be dreaming and I know that I need to wake up and go in the morning, so I start waking up from dreams in my dream. My layer 2 dreams are like a N64 game is to real life. Less detailed. Bright and simple colors. Then I wake up in layer 1. And I know I'm not actually awake because the details don't make sense. I'm not in the right place. Some weird shit is going down. And I go back and forth for a while. Until finally I wake up in real life. I apply a quick sanity check and verify that yes, this is the real world.

I attempted lucid dreaming in layer 2 but it didn't work. It froze on an image and I transported in layer 1.

OP here. It's not so much the nightmares, although I get them from time to time. It's the depressing dreams, where you relive your failures as an adolescent, that ruin the following day the most for me. The dreams where your friends abandon you, the girls laugh at you, and then you find yourself lost in a forest or in a bad part of town where you've had a bad memory. And then your boss at your first job appears and yells at you for being a failure.

It's mind torture.

You need to change things up man. Get that shit out of your subconsciousness. Leave the past behind. Let it sit there stuck in the dirt and rusting, where it belongs.

Try sleeping in. Lay in bed for a bit and doze in and out of sleep. I dream most intensely on nights where I really need the sleep and I sleep in afterwards. If you start to remember seeing something vague, try to recall it afterwards.

I had more terrible dreams the last couple of nights.

Thursday night, in my dream I was at work, only it was night time and most of the other employees had already gone home. My boss comes up to me with a mean look on his face, and he starts writing on a piece of paper, then says "I'll give you a good reference, I just need to you to be on your way." The paper he just signed was my termination papers. I then asked him "Why? Why are you letting me go?" He was reluctant to tell me, and he didn't say anything for about 10 seconds. Then he gets angry and he yells "You hit the print-screen button on your computer, so I know! I know you were looking at memes!" And takes out another piece of paper with a printed image macro on it and shoves it in my face. I just remember being a benign macro, no porn or anything like that. "Get the fuck out of here, you're not welcome here any longer." I then felt really guilty in the dream, and begged not to be fired, but it was too late, and I had to walk home utterly defeated and lost.

Do you know what it was like after waking up from a dream like that? To feel guilty for looking at memes? I had a really bad vibe all day, and I couldn't even look at my boss in the eyes IRL.

And last night, Friday night, I had a dream that I was captured by muslims and they were going to execute me, and were deciding between hanging me, shooting me, or chopping me up.

That does sound unpleasant indeed. I've had unpleasant dreams that affected me for the rest of the day, but I don't get them on a regular basis.

When suddenly at nights dark thoughts intrude your peaceful sleep
And your dreams wander in places long-forgotten
visions of loss and regret engrave their ugly features on your skin
And you feel your purity slipping from your hands

When gradually you see the years you’ve lived turn into statues
The hopes and dreams you had, now cast in stone
And when the years that come appear to be stillborn
When you reach out to touch them they have already gone

I had a dream I was doxxed on /prog/. My reaction was, ``Hah, I wonder how they got that. Oh well, whatever. I guess people will find /prog/ now when they google my name.'' It was an easy feeling.
