And so it begins... the gradual oppression and knowledge-denial of users via "removing clutter" and "streamlining interfaces" in browsers, leading up to overarching corporate control over all sites on the Internet via the horribly broken CAs which most users don't even know exist or whether they should be trusted or not.

"Those who give up freedom for security deserve neither."

About time for a gopher revival.

The golden age of the internet was the early 90's, and everything has been in decline since.

This is just the next step in the complete destruction of the internet and internet culture, and things won't be improving anytime soon.

It's already over.

If we can get the masses to wake up from their stupor and realise what's happening, perhaps we can get things to turn around. Show people how much freedom they've given up, in a way that they can easily see.

The definite way to defeat is to not fight.

There is still hope...

What if I want to use one of the millions of http web shites? Especially the ones that are left unmaintained? There is a huge amount of knowledge out there and Mozilla wants to block our access?
Or what if I don't feel my site has the need for https? I have made a simple and fast http server without https support for example. Why should I waste a huge amount of time to bloat my server so it will have a https implementation too?
Or what about the sites that do not pay for a certificate and make their own? I guess Mozilla should have already stopped displaying that silly warning if they want to be taken seriously about this.

Most people do not care, they think internet = youtube + facebook + funny sites with memes and cats

Let me guess, it's based in the US and controlled by the Federal Reserve so they will be able to revoke the certificate for any "undesirable" website? Fuck this shit.

However, the market for SSL certificates, a kind of certificate used for website security, is largely held by a small number of multinational companies. This market has significant barriers to entry due to the technical requirements.

I get it. These people should just turn around and fuck off from my internets.

You're right.

Wait, Mozilla's open-source, right? Can't anyone just take its source and remove anti-HTTP locks on features?

Theoretically, yes. In practice, it's harder than it looks. See:

http://dis.4chan.org/read/prog/1375659016/188-
(Fuck you Google for not indexing that thread... how convenient.)

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-01 12:58

Then why aren't you hard at work writing the /prog/browser?

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-01 13:59

I googled it and found it, what are you talking about?

When I have time...

I only remembered the thread contained a discussion of 18650 batteries and the "checkboxes that kill" link, so did "site:dis.4chan.org inurl:prog 18650" which should find it, and it didn't. Then tried "site:dis.4chan.org inurl:prog checkboxes-that-kill", no results. "site:dis.4chan.org inurl:prog limi.net", nothing either. Then when I finally found the thread by manually scraping and grepping /prog/, sure enough all those terms were in it!

Of course if you input that URL Google claims it exists, but...

Whatever happened to search engines that don't have dementia? Or is this being done on purpose because of "if I can't find it with Google, it doesn't exist" mentality? Brainwash the weak-minded to think that something which does exist, doesn't?

try site:dis.4chan.org "18650" instead. Your google-fu is weak! Stalkers unite!

Of course now that I posted the link, Google has decided to quickly index the page again and all the queries I mentioned now return it... perhaps I shouldn't have posted an actual link!
