So where's the alternative to debian 8.0?

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-31 13:47

Last time I checked, their site hadn't been updated since launch. The systemd spread is so universal it seems like a cult or a bodysnatcher thing. What the fuck was wrong with sysvinit?

It was too slow. Ahem.

Startup finished in 3.1s (kernel) + 1.9s (userspace) = 5.0s

TempleOS

Ha ha, is that serious?

My #! system boots to a usable terminal window or browser on the desktop in <45s, and that's on an eight year-old thinkpad with 3GB RAM.

Why does everyone insist on using systemd because it's ``the only alternative to sysvinit'' when OpenRC works wonderfully and addresses many of the problems of sysvinit?

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-31 17:31

We're stuck with systemd now aren't we?

too many things make use of it, and it hooks into to many things

trying to avoid it will just give you an unusable computer

this is such a shit

how did this happen

Good thing, the things it is hooked at are only low quality software.

If a project links into systemd, replace it with better software. Rinse and repeat. We will finally purge the shit from the linux userspace. And since it's all trivial poorly designed shit, the job will be easy.

this is a childish bad attitude that wont help us win

If a project links into systemd, replace it with better software
we don't have the resources to do this do we?

this is a childish bad attitude that wont help us win
Having the low quality software disappear will be what will make us win.

we don't have the resources to do this do we?
Better software already exist.

Oh look, a thread full of children bitching about Pottering's least damaging project.

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-31 21:37

Why not just use Void?

Or this

Poettering.

Is void any good?

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-31 22:21

Sure, but does anyone in this thread even care?

Name: Anonymous 2015-05-31 22:21

Debian 7.x oldstable

It uses Runit instead of SystemD by default. And it's very anti-systemd so you won't have to worry about it invading or breaking the distro.
It's rolling release and very up to date
It has an interesting package management system called xbps

It's also very community based, so you will see some goodies that big distros often omit and the devs are always active and accessible.

However, it's not intended for beginners and doesn't come with batteries included. But that shouldn't be a problem for a /prog/ster.
