crypto-terrorists [part II]

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-03 16:34

Back in the old /prog/ I warned you about it; now things are getting more clear:
Encryption a growing threat to security [...]
Unfortunately, this scenario is not at all far-fetched. Recently, FBI Director James Comey testified before Congress that terror groups such as ISIS are using encrypted programs to hide their communications and recruiting messages from U.S. federal agencies.[...]
What could a solution look like? The most obvious one is that U.S. tech companies keep a key to that encrypted communication for legitimate law enforcement purposes.
they should also keep a master key, because it may one day save thousands of lives
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/01/opinions/rogers-encryption-security-risk/index.html

So don't worry, we will make those damn encryption ``algorithms'' (an arab/terrorist word) illegal in the next couple of years!

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-03 17:01

master key = backdoor? what are they talking about?

its impossible to make encryption illegal, the same way it is impossible to make pirating illegal. (Sure, it is illegal, but it is also a daily phenomenon).

And how many people would die if the master key was compromised?

A war could break out if the master key didn't exist to be compromised. Forget about terrorists for a second, who are small problems anyway, and focus on the real possibilities if groups with real resources can be allowed to just encrypt anything at all. Just think about a different threat that we thought vanquished but is planning to rear it's ugly head again soon. One day, Mexico sends an encrypted notice to Germany to state that it will take it up on it's offer. The US can't read the message, so they don't know what's about to happen. Britain's totally in the dark, and France is drunk, so no one sees it coming. That offer they accept: the Zimmerman Telegram. They've been waiting for this day. BOOM goes Germany as the Kaiser resumes power and attacks France through Belgium to resume World War One. The trenches are dug thirty miles from Paris, where both nations start gassing each other. Hundreds of thousands killed in a matter of days. Only this time, instead of just incendiary shells, they lob nuclear weapons from their artillery. Millions of civilians are killed with every passing minute. Soldiers on both sides are crushed by each others tanks, but the generals refuse to admit that the age of trench warfare is over, and persist in sending wave after wave of men (and women and trans-women) in suicide attacks that gain nothing. A victorious battle's gains are measured in centimeters. British, American, and French are slaughtered by superior German engineering. Meanwhile, on the eastern front, Czar Putin's main forces are busy brutalizing Ukrainian peasants and they have to send their forces against Germany armed with nothing but broken vodka bottles. The Germans kill so many Russians that they begin to feel bad and surrender out of pity. Allied forces have the dim idea to attack the ISIS Caliphate in Istanbul, but, aided by German machinery, were able to obtain air superiority and crash half the US Air Force's fleet. China starts thinking that now might be a good time to take back the Senkaku Islands, so invade Japan. After taking Tokyo and killing Hatsune Miku, the Japanese are enraged to the point of imperialistic fervor and, taking loses in the tens of millions, repel the Chinese. They conscript every man, woman, and teenage boy to man the battle suits and begin reclaiming their previous territory. Oh, and don't forget about Mexico. The millions of sleeper cells are activated and kill every cowboy in Texas, causing a meat and oil shortage. Ordinary American citizens starve to death while the unmanaged cows walk a mere meter from them. The energy crisis means phones can no longer be charged and gas prices reach almost $4.20 a gallon. The US collapses into civil war. The South quickly reinstitutes slavery and fights well as they throw slave after slave into the path of Union machines, which they must avoid at the cost of their own lives because Black Lives Matter. Cut off from the south, the Union is forced to invade Canada to get the oil needed for a war on two fronts. Meanwhile, Mongolia has been freaking the fuck out when both Russia and China go to war, and, having no other choice, assembles the hordes in case they need to defend their country. But, by the time they assemble, China is getting raped by Japan and Russia is falling apart from the inside. Realizing their position of power, a new Khan is chosen and attacks China in a brutal assault. The Mongol hordes swiftly depopulate China, killing hundreds of millions and raping almost 400 million women. Since the Japanese had already raped all the children, they lose interest rather quickly and expand into the Middle East. With all the rapes and beheadings, the Islamic world doesn't even know that their there until it is too late. Even the oligarchs are taken aback by the violence and Russia renews it's oath of fealty to the Ruler of All Who Dwell in Tents once more. The Khan decides to complete the mission to conquer the entire globe once and for all. They round up all the citizens they find and herd them like animals into the gunfire onslaught until the enemy soldiers run out of bullets when they attack Europe. Exhausted and factionalized, the European countries fall one by one to the savage, illiterate barbarians mounted on horseback. Tens of billions of tons of loot is hauled back to Mongolia. They finally reach the Atlantic and split their forces. One army expands south into Africa and takes everything in a matter of hours. The other attacks North America over the North Pole and take everything in their brutal march south. After only a few years, the only independent countries are the islands, because the Mongols are too fucking stupid to build boats. With less than a billion people still left alive, the world is plunged into a ten thousand year dark age.

All because you people are too paranoid to give the government the power to gather intelligence. So, was it worth it?

There's plenty of islands. And we can always make moats. I'd say the Mongols are not such a big deal.

I read the whole thing. Fuck.

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 4:08

So, was it worth it?
Yes.

You didn't stop at 'Zimmerman letter'? Lol. Also, hatsune miku?

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 14:08

Why would anyone want to implement such illegal concept as cryptography anyway? Are you a terrorist-nigger, hiding from law enforcement?

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 17:47

I never thought of it that way.... Maybe we should have encryption users arrested....

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 17:49

Cryptography is for lawbreakers that have something to hide.

The Mongol hordes swiftly depopulate China, killing hundreds of millions and raping almost 400 million women
I almost came. DO WANT.

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 18:20

Hey, how about fighting terrorists without reading their emails? You know, the good old-fashioned way, when the CIA didn't get paid budget money to surf the Internet and upboat Rebbit all day.

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-04 18:48

Consider this: A pack of wild crypto-mongols
Savage, mounted Mongols nearing your civilized home. Burning your beautiful cities. Raping then killing your educated daughter.
And you can't do shit since they use AES256 to communicate. The Mongol leader sends a coded message to his generals ordering them to fuck your wife with their spears.
The primal Mongols finally intercept your plaintext. They watch fires made from your TV and you are forced to be their slave.
Such is the downfall of Pro-privacy Man.

It really doesn't matter: every mainstream IC in this planet is already bugged, from Intel to Qualcomm. If you really want random numbers the only way to go is to make a ttl homebrew computer and fill your entropy pool using some nuclear decay radiation source all this inside a faraday cage powered by a car battery. Or maybe use a 486, if you still own one...

Stephan, a 24 year old gay male, encrypts all his medical records to hide the fact that he is HIV positive. By keeping the secret, he has infected 143 of his fellow degenerates with the disease. Good work, Stephan!

Mikhail is working abroad in Brazil. He is a political activist, and uses encryption to coordinate with his organization in Russia. He is working to make the world a better place by bringing Brazil closer to Russia. Good job, Mikhail!

Rotem is a banker. He provides liquidity for several small businesses. Due to the unique needs of these businesses, he has to work very closely with them to find deals that are best for them. Sometimes, for tax purposes, they need some creative accounting. Rotem uses encryption to keep his ledgers safe and his clients operating. Good job, Rotem!

Are you actually serious? I think I'm going to have to slap you in the face.

Name: Anonymous 2015-08-05 6:15

Stephan
All he has to do is not talk about having HIV. Boom. He can infect as many people as he wants before is caught and sent to jail. Then he can infect as many prisoners as he wants. The whole thing is stupid anyways. Who even has a copy of their medical records?

Mikhail
make the world a better place by bringing Brazil closer to Russia
What's wrong with that? And if he was doing activism it would be obvious he was doing it. Part of activism is acting in the real world, talking to real people, with your real self, about something you want to happen in real life.

Rotem
If he is doing something illegal, the IRS should be able to figure it out from the record he submits alone. If they can't, the IRS needs to fix their shit.

Ok, I'm getting pissed. Fuck you. I think you're trolling but there's enough people out there that would seriously say this, so fuck you.

Maria runs a family business that provides entertainment to vacationing foreign men. She uses encryption and anonymity networks to maintain her clients confidentiality, and crypto currencies to collect payment. She also always recommends ways to keep her clients memorabilia confidential as well. Her and her children couldn't be happier. Good job, Maria!

Aisha wants to stay up to date about things going on in her home country. She uses encryption to talk to people back home and to arrange transportation there, in hopes of a romantic marriage and helping out a popular political movement. Good job, Aisha!

Ladasha works for a courier service. Her job involves transporting parcels from the supplier to the customer. To adequately meet the of the clients in a fast-changing environment, the business she works at had to adopt a peculiar business model, where the package might be sent out without even knowing where it's supposed to go. She uses encrypted phone calls to coordinate with the clients to find out where they would like their product delivered as fast as possible. Good job, Ladasha!

So serial killers, spies, money launderers, pedos?, terrorist (sympathizers), and drug dealers? This is the same old list with an appeal to emotion.
