so some genius had the idea to let people write javascript that they can run locally instead of inside a browser.

now there are two dialects of javascript and you can't run any given piece of code from one in the either. There is a fucking compiler thing that tries to "transform" node js into browser js.

is anyone else just getting really fucking sick of idiots running everything? the worst decisions get made again and again and the platforms we end up with are a mess, terrible.

Instead of trying to make Javashit run locally, they should have tried to make proper languages run inside a browser.

Or even better, don't run programming languages inside a browser.

http://bgr.com/2016/01/07/facebook-android-app-crashing-experiments/

In a recent report from The Information, we learn that Facebook at one time purposefully caused its Facebook app on Android to crash repeatedly, all in an effort to see how many crashes it would take to prevent users from returning. In other words, Facebook sought out to determine how addictive their site truly was, even in the face of a frustrating and ‘broken’ user experience.

Facebook has tested the loyalty and patience of Android users by secretly introducing artificial errors that would automatically crash the app for hours at a time, says one person familiar with the one-time experiment. The purpose of the test, which happened several years ago, was to see at what threshold would a person ditch the Facebook app altogether. The company wasn’t able to reach the threshold. “People never stopped coming back,” this person says.

I think the real question is how many users decided to switch to apple?

Why in all the name of fuck, if I had to run an Android app on my PC, would I want to reboot my machine to do so?

That's not "I want to run an Android app!" that's "I want to run Android instead of something useful!" What a stupid way to report on this.

Yes, and it's just sad to see people getting exited on some code editor written in Javascript (VS Code, Atom, ...) instead of using really working software (vim, emacs, sublimetext, etc).

/jp/ is /prog/'s sister board. Maybe someone will post the full kopipe or this, as I cannot find it. The obnoxious /g/ shitposter is where he doesn't belong and isn't wanted, and can't understand why no one is impressed with his reddit-teir garbageposts.

You mean Browserify and similars? That's just a dependency thing. Both dialects are still the same.
