Sine wave audio signal above the sampling rate

Name: Anonymous 2016-07-04 4:25

what happens when you put 300khz signal into hardware that can only handle 96khz?
Its suppose to alias to one freq below 96khz but there are harmonics and weird effects.

Depends on downsampling method being used.

there are harmonics and weird effects
Which is why you put a low pass filter in front of the sampler.

I know about filters, i'm interested at what actually occurs: why a simple sine wave becomes a complex signal.

Because Allah wills it.

At least, that's the best response I can muster to match the IQ you've displayed.

So fire up Matlab and test various shit out.

Matlab is shit. Use Mathematica.

Nyquist is facepalming in his grave so hard that a small hand-shaped patch of the ground has been elevated in mountains of New Zealand.

What are some good textbooks to learn about digital audio processing?

check digits

I want to like mathematica but I have a severe allergy to 'proprietary' and 'cloud'

How the fuck is Matlab not proprietary?

I didn't say it isn't, I'm not the guy you were replying to. it's just that mathematica isn't the answer

It is, though there's also that octave clone thing.

It's equally as bad. Also, you can't possibly like that horseshit syntax. Engineers and scientists can't design languages for shit.

Check em

Why can't I like its systax? It works great for its problem domain of vector and matrix manipulation. Granted trying to use it for more genersl purpose stuff will suck.
