Cannabis (and other drugs) should be legalized

Name: Anonymous 2016-11-26 7:29

Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. If cannabis and other drugs weren't illegal, the drug barons wouldn't be in business.

Cannabis is illegal due to corporate and political greed - law enforcement and various industries and interest groups profit from its ban.

I live in the United Kingdom. The other day I was watching a TV program about police dogs, and during a part about sniffer dogs, a guy walked past and the dog became interested in him. The policewoman began asking the guy "You've just had a joint, haven't you?", he denied, and they arrested him.
I became furious watching this. This guy was minding his own business, walking down the street. He wasn't hurting anyone, and it wasn't likely that he would hurt anyone. What a waste of police time, harassing harmless pot smokers. Maybe if the police would go after real criminals, the crime rates would actually decrease a bit.

Everything from pot to meth to fentanyl should be legal. There's no point in stopping apes from pursuing pleasure. Rationales against drugs always have a hokey religious basis. That's all misguided. Nothing is proven to have any greater purpose. The entire existence of our planet and species is a narrow pocket within completely stochastic chaos with as much meaning as any other manifestation of chaos. The only point of laws should be to maximize our collective happiness--banning drugs does the opposite.

marijuana is extremely damaging to short term memory, causing a decrease in academic ability (it creates dope smoking 'dropouts'). Inhaling burnt plants causes cancer, despite the claims that the plant is medicinal. It can trigger psychosis and schizoaffective disorder in a small but real number of people. Because of the overconfidence effect a lot of people believe that marijuana does not impede driving, but it does - resulting in car accidents.
For these reasons I would really strongly recommand against using it but I don't think it or magic mushrooms should be banned. On the other hand I think that tobacco should be illegal because of it's extremely addictive power.

People don't do drugs because they are fun or recreational. Mostly they do it to escape their shitty lives, its deeply connected to economic and social levels of community.
When people lose social safety nets they try to compensate like that meme "Smoke weed evryday". Fighting "drugs" doesn't fix the fundamental design flaw on which the "drugs" thrive. Its like fixing dozens of small bugs everyday but ignoring that that top-level design of a system itself is giant unfixable mess full of ill-thought solutions that only create bloat and overhead.

Sessions as AG isn't going to improve things at he federal level. All we can do is keep fighting for state's rights until there's overwhelming support for legalization.
