Most businesses sell for an order of magnitude higher than the income they provide. Usually for real estate, the valuation is 10x the annual gross income. For something like a trading algorithm, I imagine the factor would be much greater than that. So the purpose of selling it would be to get a huge cash payout to, say, buy a house, instead of autistically running your algorithm on your own money to make $50 per month and bearing all the risk personally.
