Isn't MMU commonplace nowadays?
Is this useful for anyone or just for fun?

Its useful if you have a CPU that runs linux but doesn't have MMU
Otherwise its not worth the negligible performance gains of bypassing MMU allocation( Terry Davis TempleOS has this excuse for not writing MMU manager).
From their site:
>For example, for the sh2 target the Aboriginal Linux project builds a binflt cross-compiler-sh2eb using uClibc, and the musl-libc project has an fdpic toolchain build using musl.
