1. yes 2. no, I prefer a more minimal distro like alpine 3. I used to, but their desktop framework (whether unity or gnmoe3) became bloated as all hell and then they also added systemd. which would still be relatively tolerable if not for the fact that they also added amazon ads.

I used to use ubanto both at home and work for 5 years, but then I got a job in .NET and it became annoying to switch between OSes. Yeah Windows is shit, but mono is shittier. I will consider changing back once there is a real dev environment for .net core. >>6 Use xubanto (or even something with lxde if you're autistic enough). I was running and enjoying pure xfce until I discovered xnomad.

>>7 on my old laptop I switched from ubuntu to mint with xfce, then replaced xfce with awesomewm. then I replaced gnome3 with awesomewm at work - I considered xmonad but I don't know haskal so I went with something that used more familiar lua.
basically, my choice of distro now is alpine for anything headless and mint for something that JUST WERKS. I also use windows but that's just for vidya, fortunately U don't have to do any .net development

Yes No No, the separation of libraries and header files in different packages is a huge pain in the ass, and it comes preloaded with things I don't want to deal with.

I have neither work, school, or home; but I have a chroot install on my phone.
