Its too obvious this is satire on primitive, reductionist mindset of unix software(e.g.portable pixmap), consisting of future-proofing, portability and minimalism.
Of course, if this was invented in 1970's/1980's the glaring flaws and inefficiency would be laughed at too.
Only on modern hardware and generous disk space, this monstrosity can function, allowing hipsters to marvel at its 'worse is better' design mimicking vintage unix feels; its like recording your voice messages to vinyl, editing with a needle, and sending to the mailbox for that 1970's expirience.
