Cee and Sepples are stagnating and need some competition to evolve. Switching to rust will give the bureaucrats in standards committees a proverbial "kick in the butt", forcing them to compete with Rust.
Basically the same situation with LLVM forcing GCC to improve.

there have been many memory safe languages for years that you have not bothered to use: lisp, SML, ocaml, java, ..
