They hate the Right Thing.

The operating system: why there should be one (i.e. UNIX)

What should we be using instead? Unix was so influential that just about everything since then has been either ``Unix done right" or utter trash. You'd have to go back before the 70s to find something that is both non-Unix and at least as good as Unix.

Good for what? VMS and z/OS are both good for certain task domains.

Anything that isn't a hideous hack.

Modern Unix is a catastrophe. It's the "Un-Operating System": unreliable, unintuitive, unforgiving, unhelpful, and underpowered.

Unix was so influential that just about everything since then has been either ``Unix done right" or utter trash.
70s operating systems were mostly influenced by IBM systems, DEC systems, Multics, and high-level languages, not Unix. They were not trying to make ``Unix done right'' or any ``Unix'' at all. Unix ``hackers'' are liars. They have taken credit for Multics innovations and other OS principles and said they were actually Unix innovations and Unix influence. Unix was originally a single-processor OS. Unix has some similarities to these better operating systems because Unix stole from them, not the other way around.

You'd have to go back before the 70s
In the 1980s you could still find good OSes that were not influenced by Unix. Maybe even in the 1990s.

that is both non-Unix and at least as good as Unix.
Unix is good for nothing. It poorly uses some CPU features like virtual memory, but it's crap. X is crap. It's all crap. What are ``good'' are some of the programs that run on it, usually by fighting the Unix philosophy as much as possible.

Plan9 is a meme OS, nobody ever used it. You're probably one of those 9front autists who made a fork with a website full of Touhou shit to try and appeal to a weeb audience.
