Unix is simple. It just takes a genius to understand its simplicity.

Unix has retarded OS research by 10 years and linux has retarded it by 20.

The simplicity of Unix is its ability to retard OS research.

I blame systemd and Poettering for destroying the image of Unix for most people nowadays.

What is OP's suggestion for an OS? Windows is really unusable these days and I don't see what the point of any Mac OS is these days given how much it resembles a dumbed down unix.

what's so great about modern Amiga? not asking sarcastically, I'm genuinely interested. I consider buying an old Amiga for vidya but if new Amigas can run old games and have a really good general-purpose OS then I might waste my hard-earned money on AmigaOne

Fast, PowerPC based, Aminet has a good amount of software, the community is tightly-knit, it's probably the only proprietary software company that doesn't have tracking or malware. The cons are that it's expensive (especially for a full desktop), modern Web browsing could be better on it, but to be fair, all Web browsers on any platform are shit today. What kind of old games did you have in mind? Emulation of consoles? It's got that. I don't know if it'll play the old Amiga games, my guess is maybe because OS 4 does have 68k emulation.

They should work fine through emulation. If that doesn't work, late model 68k Amigas with OS 3.9 are pretty cheap nowadays.
