>>5you are not going to make a friend request to every random dude online
here's how it works
you meet someone in person -- work, meetup.com, etc.
then you add them on facebook
then you get to know them better -- you might only see them in person a couple times a month, which isn't enough to know them well
but if you add them on snapchat, instagram, twitter, facebook, etc then you will get to know them even when you don't hang out in real life
and I have met random people on meetup, eventbrite, craigslist, and linkedin
this is how people socialize and network these days
recruiters contact you and say they want to meet up and get coffee to discuss jobs, but it's not just jobs -- you can make friends and professional acquaintances this way too (unless you live in a rural area)
also I've made friends from twitter, they can also follow you on github, or you make a slack team or discord server too
if you do not like football or pop culture
none of my social media is about football or pop culture
