Using vim as ex/vi is smart tho. Nobody wants to waste time maintaining outdated technology. Bram takes one for the team. Also one codebase: all eyes on the same ex code, no redundancy. Every ex works the same and has the full featureset, because it is the same code. This is how it should be done. It's a sign of incompetence if a distro shipps more than one vi clone.
