Unfortunately he doesn't tell how they developed that massive isometric Sega Genesis RPG game: https://www.mobygames.com/game/rings-of-power
The game had a built-in cheat that would show a topless woman (instead of a clothed one) during the Naughty Dog intro. That actually caused the game to be removed from some shops' shelves, because there were no warnings on the game box about nudity.

That was one of the first truly open world games.

Really enjoying this series. Could have more technical details, but it's still a neat view into the kind of shit you could get away with in the '90s before the game industry was totally corporatized.

According to one of the creators of "Myst", they developed most of the game without access to a CD writer and had no idea whether the game would even be playable on a 2x CD-ROM. Insane times.

Tried to transcribe the map theme, and found that instruments are actually atonal - same note gets played at different frequencies, and also with random BPM. Is that some Sega Genesis thingie?

Anyway, I've managed to transcribe the bass line, which I will use in my own work. Doubt anyone would notice it got stolen.

There is actually auto-transcription software, but it doesn't discern between instruments a produces a messy sound mid file, and although it has some comical effect. Try passing Russian Anthem thought https://www.bearaudiotool.com/mp3-to-midi

It has really post modern quality :D

That is some Mexican shithole. The guy was lucky he got beaten with a bat instead of a machete.

Googled it up. It is Chile. The poorest and most overcrowded South American shithole, several times worse than Mexico. They have record unemployment and human life costs even less that in Mexico. Crime is the only way to be less poor in there, since no legal job there would ever allow you to buy say IPhone. So it is not that guy's fault, but the fault of the government.

All that gibberish and years of spamming mailing lists for a program that can barely answer "I ARE ANDRU" to whatever input it's fed with.

That is called "schizophrenia." Mentifuck is a pure textbook schizo case. In fact even his nickname reflects the condition. Similarly to "ulillillia".

From the Mentifex FAQ1:

4.2 Help! Murray has started disrupting my favourite newsgroup/website/wiki/blog. How do I get rid of him?

Don’t get your hopes up. Oblivious to all criticism and requests to cease and desist, Murray has been pontificating his AI theory on the Internet and in print for over [forty] years. There is no evidence to suggest that he is about to stop any time soon.
[...]
Trying to argue with Murray is futile as he rarely responds directly to criticism or requests for clarifications. Instead, he will simply take the opportunity to further extoll the virtues of his software.
[...]
On privately owned Internet message boards it may be possible, and even desirable, to convince the owner to ban Murray from posting. Given the number of dial-up Internet service providers he uses, however, this may entail blocking entire blocks of IP addresses.

The mentifex FAQ was written in 2009 and I think it was still a thing then in USA (dial-up disappeared in the early 2000's in the rest of the world.)

Russia had dial-up up into 2010.
