Which books should every true 4NUS-H4XX0R read? Only /prog/ramming related books obviously, I would never contaminate this board with off topic posts.

I haven't read a book in a decade, i prefer papers/articles because its faster to absorb the essentials. For example: i want to learn what is a monad. Do I order a 800-page Monads for Dummies: Learn Monads in 5 years masterpiece by top of the line category theorist or do i read a 800 word article where monads are explained as burritos?

Goedel Escher Bach if you find xkcd the funniest shit ever. SICP if you want to be an unemployed wizard. The Illuminatus Trilogy if you have not spoken to a neurotypical human being this year.

>>3 xkcd isn't meant to be funny, its more like "ironic nerdy culture" references sprinkled with smug "i ducking love science" sentiment. Goedel Escher Bach is a good book for people who want to find deep meaning in mundane stuff, like e.g. anime plots.

THE K&R /PRO/GRAMMING LANGAUGE you not allowed to lurk if you did'nt read!
>>5 My first ever programming book. ;_; After having read it I was unsatisfied by its high pace and skimming over the details, and went through HtDP instead. 10/10, would read again.
I have been memed into htdp but it's not worth to read through 700 fucking pages burying info in 1000s of useless words. I'll throw it away.
Books are kinda useless. Code/articles are much more fun and productive. Also competent programmers are too busy to write books but not to upload code on github/company repo or make a blog post.
