The two wires you solder on at 12:37 do piss all. The connections you use on the charge controller are for a 5VDC pass through, and you connect +5V to one remnant of a coil in the head, and ground to the other remnant of a coil. (They are remnants since you drilled through them, possibly shorting them to each other and blowing your charger in the process. Damn I hate clickbait channels making videos of completely fake electronic projects. I am a component-level electronics repair tech so I can call you out on this)

Name: Anonymous 2025-07-09 21:57

Those of us who love electronics are deeply saddened by these rude and deceitful practices. Obviously, this video, made by an animal, was retitled and uploaded by another animal. Both of these people are antisocial, and I hope their lives go as badly as possible.

This is the best adapter
0 lag
And it costs literally 99 cents
Expect over 350MHZ of performance, I have one that does 400MHZ but thats silicon lottery
It needs to have this chip inside it, if its a different chip its garbage
Only the chip is good
But I have bought 15 of the things and for me they all had the good chip
Since the adapter is so cheap I was afraid it wouldnt last very long, but im still on my very first 99 cent adapter after years
I tested different adapters, it easily outperforms the Delock DP to VGA, which was once considered to be the best, which does around 330MHZ tops, officially 270MHZ
I hope that answers your question

"Open Source" basically did a capitalist highjack of the Free Software movement and then convinced people it was the same thing. The reason for the separate open source movement was never truly that it makes for better/less buggy software (you need only to scratch the surface of any common Linux distro to see that) but that it lets corporate profit off of unpaid/underpaid programmers, which is why they push back so much against the GPL and its shareback requirements (even though they try to say it's because it's "too complicated" which gets traction because after all most people hate legalese.)

Hey everyone… well it goes like this. We take care of small businesses around Jacksonville with all IT and received a call from a frantic client that her computer screen, mouse, keyboard and everything else froze up and not working. Also started to hear a clicking sound coming from her desktop. She is the owner operation of a bookkeeping service with many clients on Quickbooks. Although she maintains a good backup strategy the day was long and she already performed many entries into many client files before she concluded her day and perform her backup routine. Then comes the “click of death”

So needless to say she was nervous, scared and beside herself while on the phone with. I asked her to calm down as I looked into her remote cloud for the recent backup which was a day old. She was hoping not to re-enter the entire day. I explain to her about how hard drives will fail and start to click which means its time to replace the drive. She cared nothing of the cost to replace and only the cost of lost data and getting back her recent files.

So I said let me come over and I can try a trick I learned from a colleague yet never performed it myself. So I arrived and removed the drive, placed it in a anti-static bag and into the freezer. Ok? while doing so my client is looking at me half thinking I’m a lunatic and half thinking that I hope this lunatic can get my data back. So onward I started the new hard drive and operating system installation, got the system up and running on the Internet so I can setup a remote access with team viewer and explained I will remote in and get windows updates installed, install quickbooks etc… remotely as I had prior appointments to attend. She agreed and was texting me during the course of the day to see how the progress was going.

After all was completed the following day ( Saturday ) I arrived back with my reliable Black X hard drive cradle. Removed the failed hard drive from the freezer and placed into the cradle. Powered it up and waited. Opened file explorer to see if the drive is starting to be read, the name of the drive popped up and then the folders started to populate. No clicking yet from the drive. She kept all her client files in a folder called ( Quickbooks on the root of C ) so I quickly clicked it and the folder expanded to all the sub-folders. So I immediately went back to the main folder and dragged it out to the desktop copying all 15GB of data. Patiently waiting and praying it will hold up. Once completed I checked the files integrity and it worked. Everything she entered down to the minutes were correct.

Needless to say she loves me, has recommended my services to her clients and I made a nice paycheck from my services. She also learned a big lesson about backup frequency and how things “will” happen without any notice.

So in conclusion, has anyone else every tried and had success of recovering data from a frozen drive with the click of death?

This question already exists:
How do i install OS X on new hard drive? I have macbook pro mid 2010. [duplicate]
Closed 9 years ago.

I have a huge problem. My hard disk seems to be dead. I did a lot of things but I guess it's really gone. The thing is that I don't have CDs o DVDs of the OS X Lion (it's a macbook pro A1278 bought in 2012) and no backup in time machine. I lost all my files so I'm already grieving.

The thing is, if I buy a new HDD, how do I get the OS X there?

It's very much not clear that this is a duplicate of the other question (tho that question clearly is a duplicate of the other other question). This answer, the currently top-rated one on the original original, assumes the hard drive you wish to replace works and that you can boot your Mac using it. This answer tho provides instructions when the hard drive being replaced is not working. –

Buy an SSD instead of an HDD if you can afford one. Believe me, you'll thank us. You currently have a MacBook Pro with a fast Intel processor but an extraordinarily slow hard drive. Your failed hard drive was your computer's main performance bottleneck. Replace it with a fast SSD from a reputable manufacturer like Samsung or Intel, and your computer will perform far better than new.
You could reinstall Lion using Internet Recovery. But, it would be much better to skip the outdated versions and install Yosemite. You can create a bootable Yosemite installation disk using an 8GB USB flash drive and a friend's Mac. Here are Apple's instructions for creating a bootable Yosemite install disk from an 8GB USB flash drive:

Download the OS X Installer app from the Mac App Store.
Mount the volume you want to convert into a bootable installer. This could be removable media such as a USB flash drive, or a secondary internal partition.

You can then use the createinstallmedia tool to convert the volume from step two into a bootable installer based off the installer app from step one. To learn how to use createinstallmedia, use the following command in Terminal:

/Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia

After you have created a Yosemite installation disk, insert it in your Mac's USB port and hold down Option as you power up. You will be able to boot from your Yosemite installation disk, just like you would from a Lion installation DVD.

Non-technical users may prefer a more detailed walkthrough of creating a Yosemite installation disc.

You may be able to do Internet Recovery by pressing Cmd+R during startup. If that is possible, then:

Install the new HDD.
Boot to Internet Recovery.
Enter Disk Utility.
Create the installation partition.
Exit Disk Utility and choose to Reinstall Mac OS X.

You can test this even with the bad HDD still in place.

If your system did not come from Apple with installation DVDs, your system most likely supports Internet Recovery. You'll need an internet connection for it to work and, yep, it'll take some time to download that Lion image.

How to start up from macOS Recovery

macOS Recovery is your computer’s built-in recovery system, with utilities to reinstall macOS, repair or erase your startup disk, restore from a Time Machine backup, and more. Follow the steps for your type of Mac.

Mac with Apple silicon

Intel-based Mac

Mac with Apple silicon

A Mac with Apple silicon includes any Mac with an M-series chip, such as an M1, M2, M3, or M4 chip. If you can’t identify your type of Mac, you can safely try the steps for an Intel-based Mac as well.
Start up from macOS Recovery (Mac with Apple silicon)

Make sure that your Mac is turned off. If you can't shut it down normally, press and hold its power button for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold the Touch ID button.)

Press and hold the power button again. As you continue to hold it, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see “Loading startup options” or the Options icon, release the power button.

Click Options, then click the Continue button that appears beneath it.
Startup options screen on a Mac with Apple silicon.

If asked to select a volume to recover, select your startup disk, such as Macintosh HD. Then click Next.

If asked to select a user you know the password for, select the user, click Next, then enter the password they use to log in to this Mac. Forgot the password?

When your Mac has successfully started from Recovery, it shows a window with utilities such as these. Other utilities, such as Terminal, are available from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Use any utility, or quit Recovery by choosing Restart or Shut Down from the Apple menu .

Restore from Time Machine

Reinstall macOS

Disk Utility, which you can use to repair or erase your startup disk.

If you can’t start up from macOS Recovery (Mac with Apple silicon)

If your Mac starts up to some other screen, such as a blank screen or exclamation point in a circle, learn what to do if your Mac doesn't start up all the way.
Intel-based Mac

If you’re not using a Mac with Apple silicon, you’re using an Intel-based Mac. If you can’t identify your type of Mac, you can safely try the steps for a Mac with Apple silicon as well.
Start up from macOS Recovery (Intel-based Mac)

Make sure that your Mac is turned off. If you can't shut it down normally, press and hold its power button for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold the Touch ID button.)

Press and release the power button to turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold these two keys on your keyboard: Command (⌘) and R. Keep holding them until you see an Apple logo or spinning globe.

If asked to select a network, choose one from the Wi-Fi menuWi-Fi menu or attach a network cable.

Utilities window in macOS Recovery

If you can’t start up from macOS Recovery (Intel-based Mac)

To help ensure that your Mac can recognize the keys you’re pressing at startup:

If you’re using a Mac laptop, use its built-in keyboard instead of an external keyboard.

If you’re using an external keyboard, you might need to wait a few seconds before pressing any keys to give your Mac time to recognize the keyboard as it starts up. Some keyboards have a status light that flashes briefly when the keyboard is ready to use.

If you’re using your keyboard wirelessly, plug it in to your Mac, if possible. Or try a wired keyboard.

If your keyboard is made for PC, such as one that has a Windows logo, try a keyboard made for Mac.

If your Mac tries to start up from its built-in Recovery system but can’t, it should automatically show a spinning globe as it tries to start up from Recovery over the internet. Or you can force Internet Recovery by pressing either of the following combinations at startup, instead of Command-R. (Each combination also affects the version of macOS offered when reinstalling macOS from Recovery.)

Command-Option-R

Shift-Command-Option-R

If the spinning globe includes a warning symbol (exclamation point), startup from Internet Recovery was unsuccessful:
Globe with warning symbol when starting up from Internet Recovery.

This warning screen and most numbered errors you might see here are related to issues with your network or internet connection. Try these solutions:

Make sure that your Mac is connected to the internet. It might also help to connect in a different way, such as via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.

Try each key combination: Command-R, Shift-Command-R, and Option-Shift-Command-R.

Try when connected to a different network.

Try again later, in case the issue is temporary.

Other solutions:

If your Mac starts up to some other screen, such as a blank screen or lock symbol, learn what to do if your Mac doesn't start up all the way.

If your Mac is currently set to start up from Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp, set your Mac to start up from macOS, then shut down and try again.

Learn what to do if your Mac starts up to error -1008F.

To enter macOS Recovery using a regular USB keyboard (like a Windows keyboard), you'll need to use the Windows key (usually labeled with the Windows logo) and the Alt key (usually labeled "Alt" or "Option") in place of the Command and Option keys respectively. So, instead of Command-Option-R, you'll press Windows key + Alt key + R.

Hi CurlyFry7777, sorry to hear of your freezing:

try this : reset smc/pmu and zap pram on startup, here’s how( please note, this doesn’t work on the new M1 and M2 macs… see link: https://www.macworld.com/article/224955/how-to-reset-a-macs-nvram-pram-and-smc.html… the pram zap should be done about 3-4 times on startup then release all keys and let your Mac start up as usual… try it out, otherwise start up in “safe” mode by holding down the Shift key on the keyboard … you have to be patient on that one, when you see the words”safe mode” on your screen it’s in safe mode see if the problem reappears

Loading Bar Stuck on Almost Full to Full for 8+ Hours Upon Login (SEND HELP)

I recently downloaded a video software that froze my MacBook Pro (its older 2012/13) so I force restarted it manually, and it hasn't been able to login since, as its been stuck on the login loading bar on full.

Initially it just kept rebooting with the error message 'your computer restarted because of a problem (etc; Japanese)' but now has just been hanging there for multiple hours.

I've tried repairing the disk in disk utility multiple times, at which it says everything is okay, but made a possibly big error when before trying anything else stumbled upon an article that recommended to decrypt the disk (horrible idea), and it's been stuck on 0.0% (paused) regardless of power, and I've attempted reconnecting the battery and it didn't help it at all.

So far I've deleted the program from terminal (rm -r) and the app save states, and it hasn't helped, and I recently have been trying to do some stuff in single user mode, but there's a lot I can't do because of the decryption process and my lack of knowledge (and I don't want to permanently damage anything due to that lol)

I'm sure reinstalling Catalina would fix the issue, but that's not possible due the decryption.

I also attempted to back up the ~300gb (1TB) [HD - Data] to an SSD, and it force restarts every time after a short while into the imaging process.

I just signed up here as a last resort, if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I'd rather not pull the folders and reformat the disk if there is a more viable solution.

Many thanks for your consideration and knowledge and help.

(ptax) interrupting the decryption process is what causes it to pause (if you run [diskutil ap list] in terminal you can check that) which is what had caused my small issue not being able to resolved with a simple solution in the first place, so I wouldn't recommend that, but I appreciate the concern. I could go to the last resort and back up the core folders to an SSD pretty easily and then reformat the disk completely, but there's less of a guarantee on that if my disk is not in horrible condition (which I don't believe it is, its never acting this way before and I've never had any problems previously) there should be a way to internally repair it regardless of it trying to lock because of the decryption process

Spinning beachball during disk First Aid. Wondering if someone has experienced this? I am hoping this isn't a hardware issue = trip to Apple Store and down time for laptop repair. I had to force power down my 2021 16" MBP because it wasn't shutting down on its own (can't remember exactly what was going on at this point.....I think Finder was being weird after I force quit a First Aid pass on my time capsule drive). Anyway, holding down the power key until she quits always makes me wonder about file errors being created because OS wasn't allowed to shut down normally. So....I restarted into the Recovery Partition.....Disk Utility.....and ran (tried to run) First Aid on everything. The small partition that holds the Recovery Partition checked out ok, as did the top level main hard drive ("Apple SSD media..."). However, any attempt to First Aid the Container Disk level, or below that, resulted in a spinning beachball icon within less than a minute and total unresponsiveness (thus, more force shutting down by holding the power button). With some trepidation, I rebooted and found that the OS booted as usual. I tried, then, Disk Utility from within the normal MacOS boot environment. Here, results were a little different. Every single entity ("Apple SSD media…”, APFS container, Macintosh HD, etc.) checked out ok…except for the "Data" partition. "Data" I checked twice and each time it made it as far as checking snapshot 3 (there are 19 snapshots total), during which the progress bar (the blue one that oscillates back and forth) froze and the trackpad became unresponsive (didn’t move screen pointer and even the force feedback “click” of the trackpad stopped). No beachballs. I once again had to do a force restart. I have no idea what’s up, but hope this is a glitch in the latest OS version, and not a bad SSD or other physical issue. This is on a 2021 16" MBP M1 Max currently running latest MacOS (Ventura 13.2.1). The computer has no aftermarket equipment hooked up to it or other peripherals. Thank you for any thoughts you might have.

What if the erase function stops responding in Disk Utility? I ran into the issue where the updated macOS did not install properly. The mac in question had High Sierra installed and is compatible to take Monterey. After in stalling the new macOS the computer restarted and an error stating the macOS was not installed properly appeared. I then proceed to troubleshoot using Disk Utility program, however, I get errors when applying “first aid” to the volume(s). I continue to erase the volume to remove what could not be repaired. I clicked on erase and now the program is “stalling” and not progressing. I left the system to work overnight, but the program is the same as it was before I left the night before. Any suggestions?

My MacBook won’t go past login page. It started with the Touch Bar screen not showing up, even though the Touch Bar was responsive and working fine– I just couldn’t see what it was showing. To try and fix it, I restarted the computer. When it got to the login page, I typed my password and pressed Enter and the login progress bar came up but it stopped at a point and it wouldn’t continue, even after an hour. So then I decided to use online forums, particularly “How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility – Apple Support (UK) “ to try and fix the computer. I went into recovery mode and used Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility app, I realized the ‘Data’ volume under ‘Container disk3’ under Internal was shaded grey. I followed the instructions on the link above, which was to repair the individual volumes. As soon I ran first aid on ‘Macintosh HD’, it returned as the blue(indicating to me that it was fixed). On seeing that, I thought that the problem was solved. So I clicked on the Apple button then the restart option, but the screen(and in fact the whole computer) froze and after a few minutes, a solid pink light was shown across the whole screen and the Apple logo came up. And after typing the password, it was still stuck on the login page. i have run first aid in disk utility but problem is not solved I also tried to install a new version of Mac OS Monterey on it, but whenever I do that, after about 20 minutes, the computer freezes and becomes unresponsive. (Even if I unplug the charger, it doesn’t show up nor make the sound) About my device - I use 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with 256Gb of SSD and 8Gb of RAM.

(johnb) this was one of the first things I had tried, but recently tried again, and there was a second it looked like it was good, and then powered off, and I couldn't turn it back on for about an hour. I think it may have something to do with a corrupted file or something, which is why I was looking into single user mode, and I don't know much about that, but I know you can potentially permanently damage your disk if you're not careful. If you know anything about that. The only disks showing up in that mode for me were rdisk1 when my data drive is in rdisk2 (which is apparently unmounted by default)

Greetings

If I understood the case correctly

Stuck at login loading bar:

Start by resetting the NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) on your MacBook Pro. Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Option + Command + P + R keys until you hear the startup chime for the second time. This can sometimes resolve boot-related issues.
If the issue persists, boot your MacBook Pro in Safe Mode. Restart your Mac and hold down the Shift key until you see the Apple logo. Safe Mode can help identify and resolve software conflicts or issues that may be causing the login problem.
If Safe Mode doesn't work, try booting into Recovery Mode. Restart your Mac and hold down Command + R until you see the Apple logo. From there, you can access various troubleshooting tools and options to repair your disk or reinstall macOS if necessary.

Disk decryption:

Since the decryption process is stuck at 0.0%, it may be best to interrupt it. To force shut down your MacBook Pro, press and hold the power button until it turns off completely.
After restarting, boot into Recovery Mode as mentioned above. From there, you can use Disk Utility to verify and repair your disk. Select your startup disk and run First Aid to check for any file system errors or disk issues.

Backing up data:

If you're having trouble backing up your data to an external SSD due to the system freezing or force restarting, you may need to try an alternative method.
One option is to connect your MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode to another Mac using a Thunderbolt or FireWire cable. This allows the MacBook Pro to be treated as an external drive, and you can transfer your important files to the other Mac.
Alternatively, you could try booting your MacBook Pro from an external macOS installation disk or USB drive. This would allow you to access your files and copy them to an external drive or perform a clean installation of macOS if needed.

This has happened to me a few times (late 2011 13” MBP) first time a reinstall fixed it, after that I needed a new hard drive. Thankfully the data was recoverable from the old one...

It’s been running fine for over a year now.

Edit: the hard drive was nice and easy to replace, and quite cheap too. Just FYI.

Mine was stuck halfway and I had to reboot while holding cmd + r to boot into recovery mode, run disk utility > first aid on your Macintosh HD and then reboot like normal.

It worked for me but I am not the one to say that it is definitely the solution.

I actually just did a clean install of High Sierra on my MBP and iMac because I was having strange issues that First Aid didn’t fix (unrelated to booting issue above).

Hope that helps!

this is an issue I see most on 2011-2012 MBP's. Usually cmd+r and a reinstall solves it.

Name: Anonymous 2025-07-17 11:29

Try to run a diagnostic boot by pressing and holding D until the Apple logo appears.

You can press command-R to boot into your recovery partition and attempt to further troubleshoot your issue. Try to run First Aid and alternatively reinstall macOS.

If you try any of these with no success please report back and let us know what you’re running into when it fails.

I tried both and it just keeps on loading until the bar is full and it just doesn’t make it to the start page. My laptop’s battery was giving me a notification it needs to be replaced so I guess it has something to do with that(?)

I highly doubt that it has something to do with your battery failing. Did you reinstall macOS? Or just run diagnostics and First Aid?

Edit: I just noticed you did perform a reinstall. There is a chance that this is hardware related, but if it is Apple will need to run one of the AST diagnostic suites in-store to find out.

It may seem like a lot of garbage, but would you mind running a Verbose boot using Command-V to see what it’s getting hung on?

Name: Anonymous 2025-07-17 11:30

Boot in verbose mode by holding down CMD-V while booting. You should then be able to see where it hangs up.

Try rebooting with Command+shift+P+R keys all pressed. This will clear all your RAM and anything that’s stuck running.

Be prepared to answer the questions on where you want to IOS to book from. You will have several choice. If you are NOT sure, just back up which will force the OS to book from it’s last known state.

We have a Mid-2012 Macbook and it was very very sluggish till I upgraded to 10 gig of RAM and a SSD drive. The SSD drive is what saved the machine. Not sure if you have that option for a Mac Mini.

Good luck.

Thanks for the A2A.

Hold down the power button until your iMac shuts down. Then press it again to reboot it. Wait a few minutes to see if it reboots. If it does, check for updates again.

If it does not reboot properly, restart it again but this time hold down COMMAND-R while it restarts to boot into the Recovery Volume. From there you can reinstall Mac OS X.

Just to update, I still have the Apple logo with full progress bar on the monitor screen via HDMI and several hours have now passed so it clearly won't progress past this point. –

Boot into Verbose Mode (Cmd-V while booting). This will give you all the boot messages so you can see where it hangs. Also try booting into Internet Recovery (Opt-Cmd-R). If you can’t boot there, there’s an issue with your hardware. –

I've checked disk utility and performed the first aid function on the disk. It "appeared to be okay" so no problems found. –

See further update above - can't reinstall macOS as the disk has SMART errors - I am assuming now, at this stage, there is nothing I can do other than have the hard drive replaced? –

That is correct. Even if you were able to get the OS to install, it’s on a drive that’s failing so its going to crash in the near future. You’ve got to replace the drive. The good news is, you can replace the mini’s hard disk with an SSD and boost it’s performance significantly. –

but to a fag who doesn't know anything about cars or how they work, having a car they can't fix themselves means nothing.

me? if you have a car from 1930-2010, and it was running yesterday, and it SHOULD be running today, i can mostly likely get your car running (maybe not totally fixed, but at least get you moving) in about 30 minutes. there's literally only like 4 things it could be.

but modern cars? fuck me lmao tow that shit.

I was reminded of one of my favorite bits of secret history a few minutes ago, want somebody on a chat group I want to use the phrase "Systolic array work".

That phrase took me back nearly 50 years, to reading a paper in the Communications of the ACM that was one of the first liftings of the veil about computing in military radar.

Systolic arrays were first developed for radar signal processing because at the time general purpose computing silicon simply wasn't fast enough to do the mission. Which was a key Cold War technology for, like, intercepting Soviet bombers coming over the pole, so there was a whole bunch of dark Pentagon money going into the development.

This is also what was behind the relatively brief push for gallium arsenide logic. Which was a good idea on paper but the stuff turned out to be so horribly toxic to work with that it wasn't practical.

Decades later that same technology from Cold War military radar became modern graphics cards. Which begat AI hardware.

Along the same lines, acoustic modems were originally invented for communication between SAGE/BOMARC sites. Early Cold-War-era missile defense.

Do NOT listen to other people here. You can use Catalina for next 5 years without any issues. Hell, you can even use High Sierra. But if you need OS far basic stuff like browsing and iWork, even OS X Lion still works just fine thanks to Chromium Legacy. For average users Catalina is going to work more than just fine.

@fullmetalbg I'm glad you put that question out there it's not underrated that wouldn't be the word I would use to say about this song it's ridiculously undiscovered I would say that but not underrated You Really Got To Be A die-hard Black Sabbath fan to number one come across this song and number to come across this album The peel sessions by the way I've listened to the whole album and there's not really any difference in the version of fairies wear boots except it just sounds more raw and raunchy in the good way you can tell the whole album was cutting a basement so to speak it's dark is raspy it's not just this song listen to the whole album it's amazing

@fullmetalbg and this may throw you for a loop but I've been a Christian and I'm not talkin about the type that talks about it every time you see me and everybody I mean I'm very conserved and I keep it close to my chest I don't talk about it but I'm 41 years old and I've been a Christian since I was 13 but I absolutely on the contrary love this album that's when you know you've mastered your craft when you can draw anybody in because there's something for everybody in your music and now when it's like that more people need to hear it and more people need to open their mind and open it wider

@GoodHunter9 Walpurgis" was originally intended as a joke by Butler, but Ozzy was the only one who took it seriously, and even after the "Paranoid" album was recorded, Ozzy sang the "Walpurgis" version in concerts, which pissed off the other three.

It's amazing how just a shift in theme in lyrics and tempo can change the tone of the song entirely.

War Pigs sounds gung ho, ironically as if the listener is a soldier going to war. The solos at the end sound as if you're there, fighting for your life.

In this version, you feel helpless. It feels even more anguishing, as if you're watching your town burn down and get destroyed by demons and there is absolutely NOTHING you can do but look on in horror. You want to run, but you're paralyzed both by shock and devastation.

@patrickmohan2220 ... Heavy blues rock? How heavy does it have to get before it's metal? Nothing heavier existed in 1968. Listen to the other tracks on Paranoid. Hand of Doom? Electric Funeral? Those are the Johnny B. Goode's of Doom metal.

@josiahp.6960 I've been listening to Sabbath since I was seven years old. I'm now 44. Those tracks you listed didn't exist in 1968, and yes the first album is heavy blues rock. "Metal" didn't exist until some idiotic journalist coined the term, and Sabbath were one of several bands disgusted with that label. Do your homework kiddo.

@patrickmohan2220 Walpurgis, the song in the video above, is what I was referring to. I know nobody liked the term metal, I'm not talking about what they called metal. I'm talking about what we are calling metal. If I label an album jazz (which is what Bill Ward and Tony Iommi played), but it's full of distortion and power chords, folks are gonna give it a different label.

On the one hand, having more users use MPROTECT out of the box for most programs isn't a bad thing for security... even though some of the most exposed programs with the largest attack surfaces, primarily all of the main Web browser engines, can't work without RWX memory at the moment.

On the other hand, PaX does so much more than this - as can be seen in the 4 years of grsecurity patches from 2017-2021 which can be publicly downloaded under the GPLv2, most of the 10+ MB these patches have reached come from the PaX side - that this isn't funny...
Technically, Protection against eXploitation provides, well, efficient defenses against exploitation, multiple of which tended to foil published Linux kernel exploits (I used to play that game back in the day with spender in the LWN comments), missing from both mainline and this OpenPaX thing. The main ones are:
* KERNEXEC: x86 SMEP / ARM PXN / etc. also for processors which don't have these features;
* MEMORY_UDEREF: x86 SMAP / ARM PAN / etc. for processors which don't have these features, and more;
* much more widespread CONSTIFY, part of which is performed partially through a GCC plugin;
* opt-out REFCOUNT protecting all atomics but the ones explicitly unprotected, instead of slowly protecting some refcounts;
* RAP: efficient three-way CFI with both forward edge and backward edge, and more GCC plugins;
* RESPECTRE: GCC plugin for automated Spectre defenses, instead of manual annotations;
* AUTOSLAB (again, GCC plugins, because that is a very good thing) for separated slab caches => reduced reliability of some memory spreading attacks;
* back in the day, safer eBPF JIT code generation, I don't know whether mainline did all about that.
The commercial versions have more than that, e.g. whatever their "KERNSEAL" does, or maybe an improved RANDSTRUCT (GCC plugin, again). While mainline phases out GCC plugins because they can't maintain them, Open Source Security Inc. doubles down on them, which enables them to support a wide range of GCC versions (instead of crippling kernel builds if the compiler isn't very recent) while improving maintainability and code generation. Years ago, I remember that they tried to work with LLVM plugins, but there were technical limitations. Not that LLVM plugins - even if they made it possible to do the job - would help the vast majority of Linux distro users, since pretty few Linux distros don't use GCC to build their kernels and user-space anyway, so it makes perfect sense to work on GCC plugins.

grsecurity adds to PaX e.g. chroot protections, a RBAC, etc. Oh, and security backports which were missed in mainline.

So let's see how this evolves, whether it fares better than linux-hardened, and whether other distros start providing such kernels as well. However, as it stands, AFAICT, it doesn't raise the bar much for attackers... and it won't without all of KERNEXEC (many people still use Sandy Bridge or older Intel Processors, or AMD Zen processors without SMEP - IIRC, pre-Zen), MEMORY_UDEREF (even more people still don't use Broadwell/Skylake/Zen processors), wide CONSTIFY, proper REFCOUNT, RAP and possibly AUTOSLAB.

Yes I understand this but again the situation with GRSecurity is different. One, it's a derivative work. GRSecurity isn't the creator or license issuer. Two, they charge for access and will threaten and revoke access to 'customers' if someone redistributes the patches. Again if they place restrictions on who can access the patches and it's a derivative work under the GPL is GRSecurity's source freely available? Now can they charge a distribution fee to download the patches? Sure. But under the GPL they can't place stipulations on who can access it. If anyone could just go pay the download fee and then redistribute the patches this wouldn't be an issue. GRSecurity is dictating terms and choosing who has access to the patches.

Seriously you just research this. This has been an ongoing issue for years. Here's Bruce Perens co-founder the Open Source Initiative explaining the issue:

It would fail a fair-use test... Because of its strongly derivative nature of the kernel, it must be under the GPL version 2 license, or a license compatible with the GPL and with terms no more restrictive than the GPL. Earlier versions were distributed under GPL version 2... My understanding from several reliable sources is that customers are verbally or otherwise warned that if they redistribute the Grsecurity patch, as would be their right under the GPL, that they will be assessed a penalty: they will no longer be allowed to be customers, and will not be granted access to any further versions of Grsecurity. GPL version 2 section 6 explicitly prohibits the addition of terms such as this redistribution prohibition...

This is tantamount to the addition of a term to the GPL prohibiting distribution or creating a penalty for distribution. GPL section 6 specifically prohibits any addition of terms. Thus, the GPL license, which allows Grsecurity to create its derivative work of the Linux kernel, terminates, and the copyright of the Linux Kernel is infringed. The contract from the Linux kernel developers to both Grsecurity and the customer which is inherent in the GPL is breached.

https://perens.com/2017/06/28/warning-grsecurity-potential-contributory-infringement-risk-for-customers/

You could try using the -fcommon compiler flag to get the tentative definition feature back.

The standard has problems with pie after certain numbers of gcc

cd sys/unix
sh setup.sh hints/linux
cd ../..
make all

Solution was as follows
got to sys/unix/hints and cp linux to linuxnopieattempt

edit linuxnopieattempt
add:
CFLAGS+=-fno-pie -no-pie

and
LFLAGS+=-fno-pie -no-pie

Secondly add the no-pie options to the C++ makefile:
( -fno-pie -no-pie )
Then go to /win/vulture/GNUmakefile, find the section:
$(OUTPUT_OBJ): $(VOBJ)
@echo combining objects to $@
@$(CXX) -nostdlib -Xlinker -r $(VOBJ) -L /tmp/libstdcxx/lib64 -lstdc++ -o $(OUTPUT_OBJ)

Change it to:
$(OUTPUT_OBJ): $(VOBJ)
@echo combining objects to $@
@$(CXX) -nostdlib -Xlinker -r $(VOBJ) -L /tmp/libstdcxx/lib64 -lstdc++ -o $(OUTPUT_OBJ) -fno-pie -no-pie

Then this should work:

cd sys/unix
sh setup.sh hints/linuxnopieattempt
cd ../..
make all

Additionally if we want to install as root (change the prefix and some options (ie let it change group, set group as games, etc)):
PREFIX=/usr
#PREFIX=$(wildcard ~)/nh/install

CHOWN=true
CHGRP=chgrp

#GAMEUID = games
GAMEGRP = games

GAMEPERM = 04755
VARFILEPERM = 0644
VARDIRPERM = 0755

seems to work

cd sys/unix
sh setup.sh hints/linuxnopieattemptforrt
cd ../..
make all

AI Overview
3 Easy Ways to Recover Deleted Partition on Your Mac (Guide)
Rebuilding a partition table on a Mac OS X system can be necessary when the table becomes corrupted or damaged, potentially leading to data loss or boot issues. The process typically involves booting into macOS Recovery and using Disk Utility or command-line tools to repair or recreate the partition table.
1. Using Disk Utility in Recovery Mode:

Boot into Recovery: Restart your Mac and hold down Command + R until the Apple logo appears.
Open Disk Utility: Select "Disk Utility" from the macOS Utilities window and click "Continue".
Select the Disk: In the sidebar, choose your startup disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
Run First Aid: Click the "First Aid" tab and then click "Run" to attempt to repair the partition table.
If First Aid fails: You may need to consider data recovery options (if needed) and then erase the drive and reinstall macOS.

2. Using Command Line Tools (gdisk/gpt):

Boot into Recovery: Same as above.
Open Terminal: Select "Utilities" from the menu bar and then "Terminal".
Identify the Disk: Use commands like diskutil list, diskutil cs list, sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0, or sudo fdisk /dev/disk0 to identify the correct disk device (e.g., /dev/disk0).
Repair with gdisk: If you have it installed (or install it with brew install gdisk), use gdisk /dev/sdX (replace X with the disk identifier) to edit the partition table.
Recreate Partitions: Follow the prompts within gdisk to rebuild the partition table, potentially using backup information if available. You can use b to restore the backup GUID partition table and w to write the changes.
Verify: Run v within gdisk to verify the changes before writing them to disk.
Reboot: After writing the changes, reboot your Mac.

3. Other Tools:

TestDisk:
.

Another command-line tool that can help recover partitions. It's a more advanced option.
rEFInd:
.
A boot manager that can sometimes help with partition table issues, particularly when dealing with UEFI-based Macs.

Important Considerations:

Data Backup:
It's crucial to have a recent backup of your data before attempting any partition table repair, as data loss is a possibility.

FileVault:
If you have FileVault enabled, decrypting the entire disk before attempting partition table repairs might be necessary.
Expertise:
Rebuilding partition tables can be complex. If you're not comfortable with command-line tools, consider seeking professional help.

This is all from model_shared.c in darkplaces.
If one "defeats" the first strlcpy (ie by putting a hack that avoids the copy if the contents of both are at that point allready the same): the error just migrates down the code to the conditional at like 3161 or so:

>else if (!(texture->backgroundskinframes[j] = R_SkinFrame_LoadExternal(backgroundlayer->texturename[j], (backgroundlayer->texflags & texflagsmask) | texflagsor, false)))
{
Con_Printf("^1%s:^7 could not load texture ^3\"%s\"^7 (background frame %i) for shader ^2\"%s\"\n", loadmodel->name, backgroundlayer->texturename[j], j, texture->name);
>texture->backgroundskinframes[j] = R_SkinFrame_LoadMissing();

The engine code is all there.
The engine doesn't use outside dependancies for the menu. It's a Quake engine that's been updated. For audio it uses ogg vorbis stuff I guess.

I don't know anything about compiling on OSX.
The thing is it did compile the c files: so doesn't that mean it found everything?

This stuff used to compile on OSX in 2012.
The makefile is here:

https://pastebin.com/TP7rJCLP

It has lines for OSX, iPhone etc. I got a 2011 Mac Mini just so it would be the same thing.

I've never made my own make files tho.

I installed the libs via both brew and mac ports:
>brew install sdl2 libjpeg-turbo libpng libvorbis curl
>sudo port install gcc11 libsdl2 openssl glfw libsdl2_gfx libsdl2_image libsdl2_mixer libsdl2_net libsdl2_ttf

And then I added, to the make file, for SDL which made it atleast get through the compile (but doesn't link):
>CPUOPTIMIZATIONS?=-fcommon -fno-math-errno -ffinite-math-only -fno-rounding-math -fno-signaling-nans -fno-trapping-math -D_THREAD_SAFE -I/opt/local/include/SDL2 -L/opt/local/lib -lSDL2

IE: -D_THREAD_SAFE -I/opt/local/include/SDL2 -L/opt/local/lib -lSDL2

As I was told to by a nice mac user.
I don't know if that should be somewhere else but CPUOPTIMIZATIONS is used in all compiles so I figured to put it there.

To change the UUID of a LUKS-encrypted partition, you can use the cryptsetup luksUUID command in conjunction with a new UUID generated using uuidgen. First, identify the partition and its current LUKS UUID using blkid or lsblk -f. Then, generate a new UUID with uuidgen and use it with cryptsetup luksUUID to update the partition's UUID. Finally, update the /etc/crypttab file with the new UUID if you are using it for decryption.
Steps to Change LUKS UUID:

1. Identify the partition and its current UUID:
Use sudo blkid or sudo lsblk -f to find the partition and its LUKS UUID.

For example, the output of sudo blkid might show something like: /dev/sda1: UUID="1234-5678-abcd-ef01" TYPE="crypto_LUKS".

2. Generate a new UUID:

Use the uuidgen command to generate a new UUID.

For example: new_uuid=$(uuidgen).

3. Change the LUKS UUID:

Use the cryptsetup luksUUID command with the new UUID and the device path of the LUKS partition.

For example: sudo cryptsetup luksUUID --uuid="$new_uuid" /dev/sda1.

4. Update /etc/crypttab (if applicable):

If you are using /etc/crypttab to manage the decryption of the partition, update the UUID in that file with the new one.

For example, if your /etc/crypttab entry was luks-1234-5678-abcd-ef01 UUID=1234-5678-abcd-ef01 none change it to luks-1234-5678-abcd-ef01 UUID="$new_uuid" none.

5. Reboot (if necessary):

After making changes to /etc/crypttab, a reboot might be required for the changes to take effect, especially if it's a root partition.

Important Notes:

Backup:
Always back up your data before making changes to partitions, especially encrypted ones.

Device Paths:
Ensure you are using the correct device path (e.g., /dev/sda1) for the LUKS partition.
crypttab:
If you are using /etc/crypttab, make sure the UUID in the file matches the actual LUKS UUID after the change.
Root Partition:
Changing the UUID of the root partition can be more complex and require careful handling of initramfs and other boot parameters.

AI Overview
While it is generally recommended to use UUIDs in /etc/crypttab for persistent and reliable device identification, it is possible to use device names instead.
To use device names in /etc/crypttab:

Identify the device name:
.

Determine the full path to the encrypted block device, such as /dev/sdaX or /dev/nvme0n1pY, where X and Y represent the partition numbers. You can use tools like lsblk or fdisk -l to find the correct device name.
Edit /etc/crypttab:
.
Open the /etc/crypttab file with a text editor and modify the entry for your encrypted device. Instead of UUID=<luks_uuid>, replace it with the device name.

Example:
Code

# Original entry using UUID
# cryptroot UUID=b40f1abf-2a53-400a-889a-2eccc27eaa40 none luks

# Modified entry using device name
cryptroot /dev/sda2 none luks

In this example, cryptroot is the name of the decrypted volume, and /dev/sda2 is the device containing the encrypted data.

Update the initramfs (if necessary): If the encrypted device is your root partition or a critical system partition, you may need to regenerate your initramfs to ensure the changes are reflected during early boot. This is typically done with a command like update-initramfs -u on Debian/Ubuntu or dracut -f on Fedora/RHEL.

Considerations:

Device name volatility:
.

Device names like /dev/sdaX can change if hardware is added or removed, potentially leading to boot failures if the crypttab entry is not updated accordingly.
UUIDs for persistence:
.
UUIDs are globally unique identifiers assigned to filesystems and partitions, making them more resilient to device name changes and providing a more robust configuration.
System impact:
.
Modifying crypttab incorrectly can prevent your system from booting, especially if it involves the root filesystem. Exercise caution and consider creating a backup of the file before making changes.

LXF

Another game we simply had to put on disk was GPC-Slots 2, a text-based casino. Yes, you can recreate the Las Vegas experience in plain ASCII,
plus some color! Just run Gpcslots2 (it's a Perl script) and select
a game. Sure, you won't win any real money, but you can play a text-based version of Russian roulette via Telnet, even from a kennel in Baku. You couldn't ask for anything better. LXF

The most hilarious thing, is that any Linux core builds right after 6.11 (which was the last core that was directly worked on and maintained by Russians), started nearly immediately having issues and overall quality of the core dropped massively almost instantly.

Tragedy of the commons GPL
If even one is allowed, spell is broken.
We laboured under the understanding
our own seperate areas
to make the system
like different departments in a corporation or govenment.
but believing that any changes would stay free and accessable to us eventually

We each worked on our own project, but together we were as one.
All striving to create the greatest system that each of us truely owned: that we had dominion and control over our own computers. That it was ours.
This is why we worked on free software, why we spent our lives and our passions opening the source to all.

Knowing that it was worth it, because it would always be free;

Has become a lie.
Once one breaks away and closes a previously GPL'd project, a derivative not being the original owners and programmers, and nothing happens.
The spell dissapates.
GRsecurity.

Riaa prosecuted (C) infringement, made people afraid.
But a criminal complaint needs a prosecutor to take the case.
Which is what was forgotten.
But now is known.
Thus the infringment can be done without worry.

Wine is not as good as it used to be. Can't run old games we love. I'm told, as a 23 yr C programmer, this is all "won't fix" and to get the hell out of opensource that it's "our space now".

Problems are just labled "WONT FIX", and hackers are not wanted here anymore.
"WONT FIX"
"WONT FIX HAHAHAHAHHA"
etc.
Free Sofware has been brigaded and taken over, and the class of people that actually built it up (Hackers) has been thrown out.

Now it's broken here and there and everywhere in subtle ways.
Like WONT FIX HAHAHAHA 16 bit binaries being able to run.
The installers for all Maxis games are 16 bit, even if the binary is 32.

This "feature" is intentionally "wont fix" to break wine.
Just as the mis-features the linux kernel has been adding, enabling, etc (ie no calling a 16 bit code from 64 bit binaries) is designed to make the Hacker OS regress to a broken state that cannot run what it could just a few years ago.
(Examples from Linux: This includes things such as that default kernel option being enabled , to other such things as deleting ReiserFS: the first journaling file system and a Godsend back then. It MADE linux: from a toy to a server OS. MP3.com saved millions of dollars when it was added, for instance; but also slightly older things like rejecting PaX/Grsecurity and then years later not doing anything when they violated the GPL)

Every by-line and slogan is twisted to socially block improvements
"Oh well, hun, WINE is not an EMULATOR, so WONT FIX!!!!"
"but 16 bit used to work, and is essential"
"NO __HUN__ wine is not a space for hackers, BANNNED!"
Same on the LKML
Same on every "opensource" project now.

Our software ecosystem that we spent our lives programming; in whatever corner of Free Software we were in: has been taken from us. Converted.
And the men who were the hackers; replaced.

In February 2006, Apple announced the first Intel Mac Mini, as part of the Mac's transition to Intel processors. Based on the Intel Core Solo and Duo CPUs, they are four times faster than its predecessor PowerPC G4.[34][35] This would be the only Mac to have the Core Solo, and by extension the only Intel-based and final Mac with a single-core processor. An updated server version of the machine was released in October 2009, having been marketed as an affordable server for small financial and academic uses; this model omitted the optical drive and used a hard drive instead.[36][37]

The 2006 and 2007 models are fitted with 32-bit Intel Core Solo or Duos, CPUs that is upgradable with the 64-bit Core 2 Duo processors.[38] The 2006 and 2007 Merom-based Mac Mini models were supplied with socketed CPUs; the 32-bit processor can be removed, and replaced with a compatible 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Models manufactured in and after 2009 had their CPUs soldered onto a logic board, preventing its upgradability. The upgrades make the 2006/2007 models perform better than the 2009 models.[citation needed] Geekbench has shown the 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo fitted Mac Mini with 2 GB of RAM has a score of 3060 whereas a late 2009 Mac Mini with 2 GB of RAM has 3056 making the two machines fairly comparable.[39][40]

Had a dream.
Was in the car with mom,
was in passanger seat.
Car white.
Austraillia.
Suburban area, or rather a bit beyond, mostly trees around.
Turn in to area behind protestant wooden church (white)
dirt road with gravel.
Green foliage all around.
Somewhat overgrown.
Beyond the church, small parking lot in back, gravel.
Beyond that to the left is foliage, woods
Road continues back, left, but straight.
To the left some foliage.
To to the right of the road you can see some hovels.
Which consist of 2 buildings each:
A little one story house.
A small shed, sometimes metallic.
All the same. Usually. One beside the other you can see,
but usually there is foliage around. Like tall grass. As tall as a person. Green.
The little houses are not much bigger than a trailer.
Door in middle, window on each side. Pitched roof as you would expect.
On each othe the sheds, usually there is some newspaper printed.
In a protective case with glass infront, wood on sides. Usually.
They all are from long ago. Many are identical. Some are not.
After passing 4 or 5 of these little compounds in quick succession.
There is more tall grass foliage, trees beyond that.
We turn right, the only way to turn.
Road is gravel or dirt.
We continue, to the right of us is more little houses, but these ones abit
distant and can be seen through the foliage here and there. They have more room beside each one.
We continue.
Tall grass all around the road.
We turn left, the only way to turn.
We continue.
To the left is a small metal shed, and a trailer or little house.
The newspaper article is there.
It is some big tent gathering about Reiser.
From the past.
To the right is some more little houses and sheds.
Woods are in front, the road continues, dirt.
The feeling is lonliness.
It is felt that all these little houses and tents belong to engineers
and scientists, all people who believe in Reiser.
There used to be more,
but many are still here, but they don't talk to anyone.
We continue in the car into the woods.
There are attractions here.
It is felt that there are various animals to see around.
There is a built-river, that one must "ford" with the car.
It isn't very deep, and the bottom might be painted blue.
But it seems to possibly flood the engine of the car abit.
We ford it. There are some very well kept foliage around.
Hedges possibly of 5 to 8 to 10 feet high. You can't see over them in the car.
We continue.
We turn right. The only way to go
We turn again. Right. The only way to go
We quickly come to another river ford area it seems, and this area is african safari themed.
The car is not going well, as the engine was flooded,
doesn't work right anymore, but keeps going.
We are in another attraction, in the car.
We get out to move the car.
To the right is a bathroom themed area.
We go in for a min to look.
Forward past this area,
more themed area, we are on foot with the car,
sorta following what should be a river but is a painted path maybe.
We go right, then in an interior room of blue carpet and 1970s paneled wooden walls.
We turn left, and left again, then forward.
We turn left, and go forward.
We are in an airline themed area, in this museum we walk through, it's as if
being in an airplane, but it's an area.
An employee talks to us, she is in a stewardess outfit.
From a better time.
When Reiser was celebrated.
We turn right, then right again, then go forward.
More areas, museum.
We see newspapers about the events ReiserLand had in the past.
Vast tents of engineers and scientists and enthusiasts camped out in white domelike square based tents. Beyond is trees.
Room like possibly a bedroom, 1970s, childhood bedroom.
Forward.
Left.
We come to an employee lounge area. 1970s styling
There is the stewardess there, and also an old lady.
And other people.
All are fans of Hans Reiser.
I talk to the old lady and say how before, Linux was a toy, and
ext2 was a terrible file system that lost data and took forever if..
linux was nowhere.
Then ReiserFS came and you could just start up again after a ...
and Reiser made linux on the data center, and it shot up and up
The old lady contested this. everything was "no".
The stewardess dressed lady refuted the old lady.
The old lady, it turns out, didn't use computers.
Just thought Hans Reiser was a great man.
The argument continued.

The dream ended.

Reiserland (ReiserFS)
Austraillia.

(Note: everyone was white).
(MealoncholyS, faded glory)

My vet recommended using Frontline Plus or Advantage ll (not advantix!) for extra large dogs on my cats. She gave me a few dosage syringes and I alternate treatments between the two brands. Each cat gets a dose of 0.4 ml in between their shoulder blades. I have done it several times with zero negative effects and perfect results.

The only people who lost data using it were people who saw the transaction log being replayed after reboot then panicked and interrupted it.

no, the 2018 mac mini has replaceable ram too you can install up to 64gb into it.

>>103318865
not op but I have a 2012 machine it has metal support so can run newest fine, I think 2012 is the oldest MacBook model that can still run the newer macos okay. 2012 is also the last good model of the Mac mini because the ram can be replaced

QuakeC chaos_sque does not have 65k global variables

>Why string literals and numbers are considered "global" in QuakeC
>In QuakeC, string literals and numbers are often conceptually global because of how the Quake engine handles data storage and access:
>1. String literals
>
String literals (e.g., "Hello world") are stored in a read-only section of the data segment within the Quake engine, according to Substack. This means they are immutable and exist for the entire duration of the game, rather than being created and destroyed on the stack for each function call.
When a string literal is used multiple times, the compiler or engine often stores only one copy in memory and directs all references to that single location. This makes them globally accessible in a practical sense, as any part of the code can reference the same literal without creating new instances.
QuakeC also features built-in functions like ftos (float to string) and vtos (vector to string) that generate temporary strings. These strings are stored in a dedicated buffer and only last for the duration of the function call within the Quake engine.
>
>2. Numbers (floats)
>
The primary numeric type in QuakeC is float. These are 32-bit floating-point numbers.
Similar to string literals, when a literal number (like 128) is used in QuakeC code, the Quake engine's data handling often treats these as globally accessible constants. They exist as part of the overall game state accessible to the QuakeC code.
The progs.dat file, containing the compiled QuakeC code, includes a "Definitions data" section storing floating-point values, integers, and vectors. These are generally available throughout the QuakeC environment.
>
>In summary, the "global" nature of string literals and numbers in QuakeC stems from their storage in dedicated memory areas and their accessibility throughout the game engine's execution, rather than being confined to specific function scopes or requiring explicit dynamic allocation and deallocation.

Could the entryists that are just going to close and delete this bug be gotten rid of? That's how free software is now: every "package" or "app" (we used to call them programs and projects) is brigaded by do-nothings padding their resume by "resolving" bugs. They just "wont fix" everything and cause the project to get worse and worse.

Resume: I resolved 1024 bugs!
(bobbles head)

In my linux mint install from 2015 Diablo 1 works fine.
In my Debian install from 2012 Diablo 1 works fine.
In my Devuan install from 2018 Diablo 1 works fine.
In my Debian server from 2003 Diablo 1 works fine.

In OSX from right now, but running on intel: WONT FIX CHUUUDDDDDD
WONT FIX
GT THE FK OUT OF OPENSOURCE
THIS IS ___OUR___ SPACE NOW

ONLY RUST GAMES SUPPORTED
BURN DOWN 16 BIT BECASUE MICROSOFT WOW DOESNT SUPPORT IT
(note: diablo1 is 32 bit)
CHUDDDD
WONT FIX

WONT FIX C PROGRAMS
CHUUUUUUDDDD
CNILE

Etc.
It's all resume padding, and entryism

(In reply to Zeb Figura from comment #177)
I've been programming for free software since 2001.
24 years. Been using wine a similar amount of time.
Diablo 1 always worked to some degree or another as far as I can remember.

I just tried forcing it now to a windowed mode using DxWnd (note: in OSX); only got to see the red bottom of the screen (up from being all black in full screen mode): and then it crashed.

This is a regression as far as I can tell.
And yes: in free software/ opensource, things are just dismissed and labeled won't fix now. As if it's a professional corporate environment. Started since someone decided to attempt to extract slave labour from graduates by requiring opensource contributions for job placement.

Forcing the unwilling (or coercing) to interact with opensource just destroys the culture that caused its success.

And the removal of that culture is causing regressions and failure. From the removal of ReiserFS because it's "unmaintained" (this was never a requirement: we used not look a gift horse in the mouth and were grateful for any contributions of code from anyone) with the underlying reason being that it's author is hated by the new people who have replaced the hackers that once built everything in this subject, to various other speech-code related enforcements (codes of conduct): contribution from actual hackers has been "DEEPRECIATTTEEED" (again: we never used to "DEEPREEECIATE" anything: working on old hardware, working with the same configs for decades since the 70s and 80s was a point of pride in linux and the bsds.) and has largely been ceased.

People like Hans Reiser are not "allowed" to contribute to opensource anylonger: where as the previous mantra; and promise; was code is what mattered: not character (not that there is anything wrong with Reiser's character: he's a man of brutal and direct action: something the hackers who created free software didn't have any opinion either way about)

Things are now ripped out of opensource because of who the author is, and what he believes, and what he did to the beloved class of new-testament coded beliefs: while being of the hated class that loves the ideas of the unadultered old testament and classical works from the same time period (not in english).
(Hans Reiser, clearly being of the latter class)

ReiserFS made Linux. And it may have made all of opensource in a way.
Linux was nothing and nowhere before it. I remember those days. It shot up to the sky on the data centre once the JournalingFS was included. We all switched to it. It also forced the people who made ext2 to add journaling and make ext3 years later. They wouldn't have done it otherwise.

With Linux's rise, after ReiserFS was added; everything else rose too.
But Hans Reiser is treated like shit now.
He is not respected for his work.
Same with every other "old" C programmer.
They're all kicked out of their own projects. Taken over by entryists.
Everything degraded, regressed, and slowed down.

The type of men who were attracted to working on these engineering projects don't bother working collectivly anymore: they will not work for FREE under speech codes: or under others ruling over them "socially". Which is the reason this has been added to opensource and freesoftware (though RMS resisted it abit). To discourage engineer participation. It is effective.

There was a time when opensource was the top in security, in resource usage, and in keeping old machines running, and in new features. JournalingFS, Pax/GRsecurity hardening, fast execution on ancien regime machines.
We had it all.

And it was taken away.
Socially. When we were targeted by the intelligence agencies, now quite awhile ago. But I remeber it happening.

Here's the error in windowed mode on OSX, : seems the same to me:
