Name: Anonymous 2013-09-19 2:11

You there! Are you a girl? Anybody? No cheating now, if you were born with male genitalia and you want to tell everybody they're cissies it's perfectly alright with me, but my aim is to know whether a single solitary biological female frequents this board. So: anyone?

Name: ¦3 2013-09-19 4:52

I am, and so is Cudder. Though she's been busy with the new Intel Quark CPU that just came out.

However, I don't care if you are sissies or not. All I want is code.

I don't even go there and I'm not even American or live in the Murricas.

This doesn't have anything to do with *phobia (I'm Hispanic myself, I get all the *phobias I never asked for). The issue here is that people seem to take their sexuality as their identity. This pisses me off, even if you're a cisgender straight woman.

For instance, a bisexual artist who has his paintings in many local museums and happens to have saved a bunch of abandoned dogs living under a bridge and a homeless guy who almost jumped in front of a speeding truck. He must be someone who is known for his good deeds or his art, right?

No, by modern standards, he should go to LGBT parades and say "Hi, my name is Carl and I'm bisexual" every time he meets a stranger. Because you're supposed to identify with your sexuality, the rest is useless crap that only grants you privileges. Who cares about what you have done in your life? You will only be a successful and sinless person if you make a Tumblr about your sexuality. Did he tell you already he was bisexual? This is really important.

These modern standards are the same reasons modern men/women are so fucking annoying, they care about getting as many partners as they can, without ever trying to learn something new or doing something the world really needs.

Well, that's not how it should be. So please go back to your favorite imagereddit and complain about the awful bigotry that rules our world.

This doesn't have anything to do with *phobia (I'm Hispanic myself, I get all the *phobias I never asked for).
Just because you understand one kind of oppression does not mean you understand them all. I've seen very racist homosexuals as well as very homophobic black guys. If you look hard enough you might even find homophobic transgenders.

The issue here is that people seem to take their sexuality as their identity. This pisses me off, even if you're a cisgender straight woman.
I agree with you, identity so-called theory is fucking bullshit. Putting labels on people and treating the labels as being the important part sounds overly familiar, and not in a good way. Being proud of your sexuality makes as little sense as being proud of your nationality or your ethnicity; you didn't work towards any of those things, you are not responsible for the great things the people of your nationality/ethnicity did. Pride should be reserved for when someone [i]does[/i] something worthwhile. But I digress.

No, by modern standards, he should go to LGBT parades and say "Hi, my name is Carl and I'm bisexual" every time he meets a stranger. Because you're supposed to identify with your sexuality, the rest is useless crap that only grants you privileges. Who cares about what you have done in your life?
In a certain sense, self-identifying self-describing is a good idea. It's a way of saying ``hello, $attribute people are all around you and they look like nice people, so why do you hate them?''. It's easier to hate when your target is far away, when you don't look them in the eye, when you know so little about them that almost all is left to your imagination.

You will only be a successful and sinless person if you make a Tumblr about your sexuality. Did he tell you already he was bisexual? This is really important.
I think at some point people lost the reasoning behind self-description and just started doing it so they can go ``hey I'm in $group, isn't that cool? my group membership plays a big part in my identity!'' which is, ironically, antithetic to the previous meaning since it encourages dehumanization by strongly emphasizing groups over people.

These modern standards are the same reasons modern men/women are so fucking annoying, they care about getting as many partners as they can, without ever trying to learn something new or doing something the world really needs.
I believe this phenomenon is simply the pendulum that is still swinging past equilibrium. Feminism (not the tumblr kind) isn't about telling people what to do or how to live their lives or who to sleep with or how frequently. There is even a subgroup within feminism called ``sex-negative feminism'' (which is actually a terrible name and has nothing to do with ``sex-negativity''; but since ``feminism'' itself is a bad name for what it represents I guess it's just continuing the trend) which analyzes how so many ``modern'' people (including a lot of self-identified feminists) tend to view sexuality as a [b]necessary[/b] (in the mathematical sense) part of a healthy and happy life, to the point that asexuals are seen as being defective and either not healthy or not happy.

That being said, I'm very sexual and very frustrated, and I can tell you that the resulting depression prevents me from working at good efficiency. For some people sexuality can be a positive factor in work efficiency (despite seemingly wasting time).

So please go back to your favorite imagereddit and complain about the awful bigotry that rules our world.
No thx.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-21 22:44

Just because you understand one kind of oppression does not mean you understand them all.
You're right, I shouldn't have used that as an argument, but I bet it would work on the comments section of some Tumblr. Hell, I bet there are Hispanic privileges now, so nevermind. This doesn't have anything to do with the topic of hypersexual [spoiler]``faggot''[/spoiler]s describing themselves as part of some kind of ``sexuality club''.

Being proud of your sexuality makes as little sense as being proud of your nationality or your ethnicity
I didn't mention that particular point, but I agree.

many ``modern'' people (including a lot of self-identified feminists) tend to view sexuality as a [b]necessary[/b] (in the mathematical sense) part of a healthy and happy life, to the point that asexuals are seen as being defective
This really pisses me off. Even if you're mentioning the logical necessity of sex for leading a happy life, Maslow's pyramid mentions it in a more literal sense, and it pretty much ``confirms'' their beliefs.

The base of the pyramid includes breathing, food, water, sleep, homeostasis, excretion and sex. I've seen many people drowning, starving, dying in deserts, going crazy for not getting any sleep, dying of medical disorders and dying literally full of shit. But when was the last time someone was diagnosed terminal virginity? What the HELL?

Not that you care, but complementing your story, I'm a virgin, I masturbate to Touhous once in a while and I don't think my virginity ever got in my way. In fact, my mind feels much more clear after I forcefully rejected that girl who wanted to fug.

Anyway, please stay here and don't go to the imagereddits.

PD: The BBCode regex is really broken, damn it Tablecat.

I think there are more than 10 by a fair bit. I know I lurked for ages before ever posting. Also there are probably a bunch of those little trolls that never do anything but complain about other people's posts.

The language I use most often, since I work in programming, is C#. I don't know that there's a future in it, but I know it so well that I can get basically any task done faster in it than in anything else, even languages more appropriate to the task. That said, I was doing some machine learning stuff in Octave, and that was pretty good. I've also been learning Python a bit, which I like, but which I am still very slow in. I posted a Python program under the name Von Neumann on Tablecat; it was a five minute C# job and took me something like 2 hours in Python. That's not a knock against the language, but obviously if I'm trying to get something done it's not going to work very well for me unless I put some time into it.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-22 12:49

>>40
Looks like C# has infected you and now you try to overengineer everything. I recommend using Scheme more often, or if you don't know it, then re-read SICP and do all exercises. Python always makes everything much shorter, because a lot of stuff is implemented already and you only have to use what's done already. If you're having problems using something that has been done, your job is getting in your way to Satori.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-22 16:53

Actually most of the time was spent dealing with quirks of Python's regex system, such as the fact that parens result in splitting of output into a tuple for some reason. Also, I'm really at the stage where if I want to do something I have to go to the docs and see if it exists, so all the string and regex functions took a fair bit of time. I could have done what the tablecat OP did and just looped through the string (and without writing in the bugs he did), but my point was that if you want to do that you might as well use C and be done faster.

If you look at C# code online, it will indeed be overengineered often, but that isn't my problem, just noobishness. As for scheme, lisp, etc. I looked into it but found that it doesn't really bring anything to the table that C# hasn't already got, for all of Paul Graham's grand pronouncements. The C# you're thinking of is years out of date. The modern version is largely suitable for functional programming, although of course macros are not possible (not really) in a compiled language. I'd tell you to take a look at it, but as I say I don't think it has a bright future with Microsoft going the way it is. My python efforts are essentially an attempt to dodge the cancerous idiocy of Java, which has essentially not evolved in 15 years.

C++ is another option I've been considering. I don't like it much, but there's a lot of useful stuff in it, like opencv and ros.

Actually, you can run it on Linux through Mono, but you lose a lot of performance, so it really only makes sense if you already use C#. If you're curious, the Mono version uses about the same memory as Python (vs. Java's massive consumption) and runs at around 1x to 1/3x the speed of Java. Much much slower than C of course.

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-22 19:52

Is Mono a virtual machine on top of the JVM or something? What's the reason it runs so slow?

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-22 20:19

>>46
Mono has a vm/runtime of its own, so essentially it's the same as Java but it seems they choose a more memory-efficient model that is slower than the JVM/JRE. I looked for evidence to support or refute that assumption, but any discussion of C# vs Java results in a lot of opinionated bullshit and no reliable facts.

A few years back I noticed that the ``female'' was being used more and more often by Americans where ``woman'' would be more typical. I mostly noticed it from two groups: People in the military and black people. Usually, but not always, from men. At first I just figured it was someone trying to sound more correct or proper or scientific, but as it became more common in everyday speech it started to sound almost ironic, then it became almost natural to hear. Recently, though, it's dawned on me that those motherfuckers were talking about pussy the whole time. It blew my goddamn mind.

When I was 19 or 20, around the year 2000, the term "female" was commonly used. We sure weren't talking about pussy, except when we were, and we definitely weren't considering the feelings of transsexuals. Your initial assessment of this habit was a lot closer to the truth, although in my experience it was usually said with the intent to convey a laconic air, by which I mean that brief, precise language was used.

I'm neither black nor closely associated with anyone in the military.
