Occupy Usenet!

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-16 5:04

We may not be enough dudes to create our own news group, but maybe we can occupy some unused, unmoderated, and unspammed group.

Wouldn't be amazing to have all the progrider force inside your nntp client?

alt.humor.jewish seems appropriated for us

Why not a mailing list instead?

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-16 5:23

I think this would be funny. We could try it.

I mostly lurk around usenet, so I don't know the politics of taking over a group. For nominations, here are a few that show up to me (Eternal September) as pretty much dead, for which the name might make some sense.

alt.comp.programming.calculators.assembly
alt.comp.rexx.cancelbots
comp.sys.pyramid
alt.html.writers
alt.motd
alt.fan.number.9

Or we could just make our own up and get some sucker to run a central, a la jury-rigged DistBB with less of the sexy bits.

I am just a few days from finishing all the god damn college work and then I'll have plenty of time to work on it. Feel free to register on the fossil project page and maybe come up with something clever for anonymous posting (see https://bbs.progrider.org/prog/read/1384115370 for a full description of the issue).

You need about 10 messages per day in existing groups for your proposal to be supported by alt.config

Actually I think we can create a real group!

What about making a /prog/ irc channel?

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-16 10:44

I would like this. Is that anonymous irc thing that one man/woman/thing was talking about on old /prog/ many years ago still in existence?

I'll be starting work on the distributed content share thing as well. Although I'm beginning to wonder if even this already exists in some form as well. It seems pretty similar to usenet, except users act as server too.

With distributed moderation and built-in crypto signing, and a quite simple spec.

No need to overcomplicate things. Just join #/prog2/ on Rizon using a VPS and be done with it, it's not like Jews are going to eat you or anything.

When there are so many torland IRC networks? hah.

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-16 20:13

it would be really cool to have a /prog/ usenet newsgroup, usenet has some of the greatest crackpots ever. apparently it's not to hard to get an alt.*
