Maybe a lot of people have issues with working for a slaughterhouse, so the pay is meant to incentivize or it reflects the scarcity of willing individuals.
If someone asks "What do you do for a living?", I certainly wouldn't want to say "I write software for animal slaughtering and processing". Not apper enough.
