Got Fired Because of Comments Style

My comments were in English and I refused to comment in russian (I have strong despise for that inferior language and cyrillic alphabet), so my russian boss has fired me. Did anyone had similar experience, getting bullied because of commenting practices?

They suggest writing why the code does something instead of how. Seems fine to me.
