Enrolling into Russian University requires completing 11 years of school education, passing all the useless humanities exams, like reading Pushkin and Dostoevsky.
To enroll into American Uni, like MIT, it is enough to pass SAT, which you can learn on your own, outside of school
Alas I cant get into American University, because you need to be a citizen to get education credit, otherwise it would cost $144000, which is a fortune in Russia, where human life costs less than a $500.
Dear Americans, please bomb Russia, till it changes college admission rules to be more liberal

canadafag here I had to do 13 years of schooling before entering university and i also had to do some useless humanities chit-chat
at least they don't have the murrican university-debt scam as bad here as in murrica
and i also had to do some useless humanities chit-chat
American SAT includes only math and critical reading/writing, which is much simpler and more logical than for example Russian tests, which require rote memorizing a lot of linguistic definitions together with verb inflections. That is in addition to the requirement of citing a large body of useless russian literary work, like Pushkin, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. In addition, Vladimir Putin's government also tries to introduce Bible back to public schools.

Whats so great about university anyway? Isnt it all just a bunch of usless bums who dont want to work and invent a bunch of crap to tell idiots bullshit these days? You can pretty much study and build almost everything you would want to today in your own home if you have the will to read some books.
yeah there has been lots of ink this year about how putin hates gays
Another theory could be that putin doesn't care either way and it's really the population that is still very homophobic (compared to other countries). Can't really blame them either considering what they've been through during the past 90 years.
This thread probably should have been in /lounge/.

>>4 Yes. 12. But you can pass SAT, without visiting school at all, whilst in Russia failing final exams or dropping out is equivalent to death sentence. And you can just do final exams, without visiting school for 11 years.
>>7 In Russia you need a diploma to get a programming or other engineering job. It is of no difference, what kind of diploma you hold (even if it is some history or psychology diploma), because it serves just to prove, that you can finish something under stressful conditions of a uni.
as i've said before not a single reasonable company gives a shit they do however keen interest in your github acc just setup a vps with git-daemon with your 1337 cod3s and make sensible post on habr. problem solved. guaranteed.
I don't visit habrahabr.ru it is for bydlo and requires invites, while I don't have any programmer friends or friends at all, because I haven't attended university, where one makes such friends.
America, I love you! Please destroy Russia for all good there is! Russia is evil and stinky country, which must whipped from all maps!
As clarification (for US companies the B-W corridor, anyway), it's not just ``your github page'', it's ``things you have done''. It just happens to be that everybody and their dog confuses personal projects for github these days. I put some stuff on repo.or.cz on my resume, and a while back, several of my projects were just distributed through ftp. Nobody has ever asked me ``Yeah, but what about github?'' during an interview.

>>16 I have https://github.com/saniv but it gave me no job in Russia, because in Russia HRs are retarded women with psychology diplomas, instead of my colleagues.

>>17 You're looking pretty good in that picture, Nikita. symta-iso looks really cool.
>>23 Are you talking about the legal definition of "unemployed" in the U.S.A.? Or about people being unemployable? 'Cause I know more skillful people and up-to-date on news and technique than most drone workers that do not have work gaps. Companies should just hire by testing the aptitude of the individual, and how they work well with others. Plus, why do you think people use a functional resume these days? Work gaps should be seen as just gaps. Not everyone works for corporations. Work without an agency or company is considered unemployed in the US. So that rules out nearly all individuals that are self-employed, with no brand of their own.
>>21 I am surprised Washington post uses wordpress, lol.
>>30 Web 3.5 is such a fucking joke. The power creep of the latest splats is obviously an attempt to rake in cash MTG-style, and the only thing it's actually good for is the browser exploit metagame. Give me Advanced Web or even OWeb any day, plus a competent webmaster. That's what it's supposed to be about, anyway - not about the amortized time to get through an encounter <table>. Sheesh.
