Everything sucks

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 18:34

In this thread: post a one-line dismissal of the library/language/program/etc. the last person posted, then post a library/language/program/etc. of your own to be dismissed. Try to be specific (but not necessarily accurate) with your dismissals, i.e. ``GTK'' -> ``Deprecated directfb output for no reason'' or ``Perl'' -> ``Write-only''.

And if somebody slams your favorite, don't take one sentence as a serious argument.

I'll start with a classic:

Python

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 19:00

Python
Uesless, overly complex, fundamentally slow language marketed towards novices and used by retards who read XKCD and call themselves nerds.

FIOC would be letting it off too easy

Java

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 21:44

Java

Too many AbstractSingletonProxyFactoryBean s.

Qt

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 21:51

Qt

Unnecessary over-encapsulation to make it really OO.

Haskell

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 21:58

Haskell

No thanks, I don't like Mexican food.

Dijkstra's Algorithm

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:03

Dijkstra's ``goto considered harmful'' has blinded people to the utility of goto in certain use cases.

Common Lisp

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:07

| Dijksra's Algorithm

Absolutely trivial algorithm, even a child could invent it.

Linux

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:08

Common Lisp

Go

Google retards give the task of creating a new language to the same old unix dinosaurs. They come up with C but change the name. Same shit, different smell.

Emacs

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:13

Linux
Development stops when the fun stops - halfway through

Design patterns

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:20

``Design patterns'' means ``my language is too shitty to let me abstract and factor out this common pattern in my code.''

Lua

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:28

Lua
I'm too faggot to write my own DSL

Bash

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 22:29

Bash

It's shit.

Javashit

ncurses
I'M SO FUCKING 1337 AND MINIMAL HACKER USING GUI APPLICATIONS WHERE THE PICTURES ARE MADE OUT OF TEXT

wget

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 23:13

wget
not being good enough for curl

gopher

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 23:20

So any languages or software out there without faults?

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 23:21

>>19

any perfect people out there?

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 23:22

gopher
Obviously inferior to HTTP because everyone uses HTTP and only hipsters use Gopher.

MySQL

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-25 23:23

A few, a better word to use would be ``great''.

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 0:10

Common Lisp is at least a local optimum when it comes to programming languages.

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 1:22

MySQL
uberbloated compared to sqlite, a toy compared to postgresql

Firefox

Firefox
It's shit but better than all the other browsers.

Forth

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 2:01

Forth
The Forth of July was not even the day the USA was recognized sovereign by the rest of the world.

FVWM

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 2:10

FVWM
Why would you use FVWM when FVWM2 exists?

bzip2

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 3:19

bzip2
Deprecated.

GCC

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 3:30

GCC
Clang has been in development for a small fraction of the time compared to GCC and it's already near GCC's benchmark. Once people switch over, GNU will be dead.

Objective C

I didn't understand Smalltalk, but I wanted to create a object oriented language with C syntax. Thanks God Apple saved me before I was destroyed by my own father.

dwm

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 3:52

dwm
Pointless, almost useless, difficult, static and unextensible toy program marketed towards system admins and other trendroid UNIX loving, XKCD reading morons.

Name: >>31 2014-01-26 3:59

Almost forgot,

Smalltalk.

The rest of the world can bite it (and get nuked).

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 5:26

I am interested in your opinions on window managers.

Name: Anonymous 2014-01-26 6:44

Smalltalk

Cursed us with OOP for eternity.

Fortran

Well, being able to shade windows is useful. As is being able to use the mouse to perform geometric operations (scaling, rotation, translation). Configurable contextual key and mouse bindings are important. Decorations should be large, and be easy to hit with the mouse (mwm and 4dwm (and Windows 3.1!) got this right: its very easy to grab borders, and window corners have extra affordances). Undo features are very very very welcome. It should be programmable at run time (very important). Windows should be minimized to icons on the desktop, preferrably with a specifiable arrangement strategy (corresponding to window maximization strategies). Tabbed windows can be useful. Clicking on the desktop should open a launcher menu.

I use Sawfish, which is O.K. Does not meet all of my criteria but it's very good.

After half a month, nobody appears to have found a reason why Fortran sucks. I'll therefore have to conclude that Fortran is the only thing that doesn't suck.

Don't change these.
